Siberian Route off limits yes.
JAL have been flying to London 10 times a week, outbound via Polar route, inbound have just switched to Southern incoming. Also flying to Helsinki. ANA flying to Frankfurt, Southern Route daily, sometimes twice. Lufthansa 2-3 times a week to Frankfurt. Air France same.

I'm non the wiser about the options for flying to Europe. Couldn't see any info on JAL site, how do we currently get back from Japan to Europe?.

ANA were not bailed out.
They received billions in "loan guarantees".

no matter what they do they will get bailed out if they fail by the government, must be nice making decisions with 0% chance to fail...

Actually, once the airlines can fill planes to Europe again and not be impeded by the incoming cap into Japan, the trade off flying the Polar Route vs Siberian Route to Europe is pretty negligible cost wise as the money paid to for the overfly rights was was/is exorbitant. Where it bites is utilization of aircraft. Flights elsewhere are unaffected. Tired of your ‘Google this’ comments. You offer no opinion.

Good luck with that. I love JAL but they are way tooo expensive for my wallet these days and into the future as I forecast myself.

Well, you’re not gonna do it with international flights only being allowed into Tokyo and Osaka.
There are in fact OTHER areas in Japan. Even though the government and companies refuse to accept this notion.
And while you’re at it, maybe NOT raise flight prices by 500% as well.
Most of us plebeians can’t afford the already absurd prices, let alone extreme mark ups.

I still do not get how the LDP and Japan Inc. got away with bailing out airlines, hotel and restaurants who laid off a majority of staff during the pandemic. t amounted to gifts to capital owners like JAL and ANA.
Just about every other country had stimulus money tied to keeping workers on some proportion of their salaries. There were violations but the perp companies were named and sometimes prosecuted.
But in Japan I know of many cases of workers for airlines, hotels and restaurants who were unceremoniously laid off when the pandemic hit while their former bosses were receiving regular stimulus checks.
Could anyone explain this to me?
