Wait…, I thought there wasn’t enough rice hence the price increases? Now you’re telling me it’s being exported. Who to believe? JA and JGov are crooked.

@jinjapan
There is plenty of quality rice at a very cheap price, imported from Japan, at Costco in Canada.

Well, now we know why there was a rice shortage in Japan last year.
Rice exports showed the sharpest pace of growth among all products, surging 27.8 percent to 12 billion yen, due in part to higher consumption at Japanese restaurants in the United States and Hong Kong.

Congratulations, these farmers really suffered during the Pandemic. Glad to see their businesses back to normal.

Good. Memo to JA, learn to diversify! People want more than your boring old rice!

The rise last year is surely almost entirely accounted for by the exchange rate and resulting food price inflation?

On the other hand, price of rice or vegetable at store are raised to twice or more, it more torturing people.

Due to rampant inflation these kinds of news are useless. In real terms exports are down even if the value keeps on climbing.
