Japan should totally boycott Russia, Japan should divest itself of any investments in the Sakhalin joint venture and buy its 9% of LNG on the open market like the other G7 members.

Japans LNG imports in 2022

Imported from USA 4.13 million tonnes, down 41.5%

Imported from Qatar 6.74 million tonnes, down 44.7%

Imported from Russia 6.86 million tonnes, increased by 4.6%

Imported from Malaysia and Indonesia 17.93 million tonnes, increased by 9.2%

Imported from Australia 31 million tonnes, increased by 15%

Japan has enough options for importing LNG that it does not need any from Russia, the other suppliers can easily cover what Russia exports to Japan. should Russia withdraw supply.
