Last time I was in Saizeriya it sounded like a fire in a pet shop

Last time I was in Saizeriya the kids and adults were havin' a good ol' time. :D

Useful for people who talk while chewing, and those who just chew with their mouths open.

And slurping! They should have this in ramen shops. :D

Can you imagine that napkin mask after a plate of meatsauce spaghetti? Eek

“b. worn Correctly (not below the nose, not on the chin, not taken off to scratch your nose) they stop a virus from spreading. Worn incorrectly but coupled with hand washing and distancing, they have some effect.”

Research is inconclusive.

“and has no effectiveness in trying to stop the spread of the virus”

Washing hands, avoiding big crowds

Reminds me of masks on nurses at the Boston flu hospital in the winter of 1918-19.

Oh my Buddha! Will this money-centric country ever wake up?! Stop wasting time inventing ways to get people to go out in public so you can make a profit!!!

I wouldn't eat at this or any other family restaurant because the food is precooked in most of them and there's nothing on the menu that I can't do better in my own home. But the point is that even with this silly mask, you will not be protected from Covid-19.

Lockdown. Stay home and stay alive!

But you can get infected through eyes... this mask is building fence against mosquitoes lol

@ Tokyo-Engr

It seems South Korea has an acceleration in cases as well

If you read the article, then you should have read the following

More than three-quarters of the latest reported infections were imported, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said.

What this means is that those cases are caught during the quarantine phase at the airport and seaports, because all arrivals must be quarantined for 14 days and be clear of coronavirus at the 14th day to be released into public.

So called "community transmission" is rare, and when that happens, Korea's world famous contact tracing system immediately activates to identify, test, and isolate all those who came in contact.

So people are freely dining out and traveling domestically in Korea free of coronavirus fears, and movie theaters are open.

It's a nice start, but there is no way this succeeds in making anyone safer. A sneeze would just blow that straight up (and people here seem to think if you've got a mask on you can just let it blow) and away, and people would constantly be touching and holding the thing to avoid getting themselves covered in sauce, hot soup, or what have you. So, now you have them touching their faces (and then other things) more than they would otherwise.

The new exotic, just as the Jp chain restaurant opens first to sell curry dishes is India.

Jimizo..... “fire in a pet shop”.. Good one!

It is a beauty. I wish I could claim credit for it. I read it years ago in a review of a live rock band.

It’s a veil, not a mask, and has no effectiveness in trying to stop the spread of the virus. Masks have to be close fitting around the nose, face and under the chin. They should be done for making fraudulent claims.

Exactly! It is basically ineffective! By the way, this is how Arab women dine outside ( lifting their veil for each bite )!

no thank you I don't wish to eat at Saizerya that much to put that thing on. If they are going to those lengths, might as well go all the way, sanitized shields and air chute delivery service to the table in a tube.

Theres a lot of snobby comments on here about Saizeriya. It is often full of teens but as somebody from the UK I marvel at how well behaved, polite and happy that age group act compared to British teenagers.

Really? Last time I was in Saizeriya it sounded like a fire in a pet shop.

Theres a lot of snobby comments on here about Saizeriya. It is often full of teens but as somebody from the UK I marvel at how well behaved, polite and happy that age group act compared to British teenagers. It reminds me how much more civilized Japan is than the UK. Also, the steak, pizza and salad in Saizeriya are delicious and an absolute bargain.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Yeah, I’ll bet it’s right up your alley.

Having eaten at Saizeriya once, I recommend wearing a full motorcycle helmet with shield on top of a full suit- of-armor helmet welded shut, then four or six masks on top of that to ensure the delicious offerings maintain proper social distancing from your nourishment input hole.

Having eaten at Saizeriya quite a few times, I recommend their green peas or asparagus with soft boiled egg and bacon, their Italian salad with olive oil dressing, and their chicken with vegetable salsa. :D

Dining has become just a little bit less enjoyable... Thanks Saizeriya, no one asked for this...

4 ( +5 / -1 )

This is beyond ridiculous, another place to avoid while this nonsense is running, I honestly like the food at that restaurant, but even if they don't force you to use that thing while eating I refuse to support a business that keeps pushing the masks-are-our-saviours narrative.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Just another gimmick to bring in customers and scientifically have not been tested. Take out or home delivery is probably safer. False security imho.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The jury is still out on masks. Until a few months ago they weren’t recommended at all.

Amazing how science changes when new information is acquired.

Six months ago I listened to a neurosurgeon explain masks:

a. they give the wearer overconfidence that they won't get a virus, so the wearer will often touch his or her face, nose, eyes and not wash their hands frequently enough.

b. worn Correctly (not below the nose, not on the chin, not taken off to scratch your nose) they stop a virus from spreading. Worn incorrectly but coupled with hand washing and distancing, they have some effect.

Just worn incorrectly (below the nose, on the chin, taken off frequently with hands that haven't be cleaned), they are ineffective. He said 'completely useless.'

This Saizeriya kabuki kuroko outfit needs to be tested for efficiency before foisted on customers. The cute pictures will ensure lots of OLs will use them.

This kind of gimmick is the reason why the coronavirus outbreak never ends in Japan, while it has ended in neighboring Taiwan and Korea and people are enjoying dining inside without this kind of non-sense gimmick that doesn't do anything to protect the wearer or others.

Even if we suppose gimmicks like that is the reason why corona hasn't ended in Japan you can't say that the absence of those gimmicks is the reason it ended (if it did) in other countries.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

It also depends on

a. Speaking in English (This is Pasta)

b. Speaking in Japanese (Kore ha pasta desu)

And, you order from the waitstaff so you don’t need a Pen (kore ha pen desu) to order.

But, you might need a sPoon so be sure to ask for spoon kudasai, not for a sPoon, please.

And, heaven forbid if you should want PePPer on your salad. Probably okay to ask for peppah though.

I think it's sad ...they're just trying to stay afloat as are many other eating and drinking establishments .. They'll try anything.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Ate at one on Friday for the first time in years. Wasn't as bad as I'd expected. The chocolate truffle icecream dessert is very nice and they still have their 100 yen glasses of wine!

Is it the 1st of April?

“However, it is said people should avoid touching their masks unless they have washed or sanitize their hands.”

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

This isn't a mask, it won't protect you or other people

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Not entirely effective, but good out of the box thinking.

Might try it at my local Saizeriya.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

This story must be test to check if we really believe stories on here?

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Are they serious? The Saizeriya mask looks like the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Looks pretty dumb.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Eating a mask while eating is dumb. It's dystopic. It's like we are living a hell. Enough with the masks already.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

I have just noticed that the napkins they use has prints of licking tongue or moustaches on them. LOL.

A few days ago I read here in Japan museums are collecting items about this pandemic. Someone please send them photos and videos or the napkins of this glimmer so our descendents can laugh how silly we are in the future.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

I hear they're also working on pizza and spaghetti you can eat through a straw.

LOL. Nice one, mate. I believe spaghetti (with the sauce) can be done by using a powerful blender. However, pizza is hard to do as the base is quite dry.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

How much longer must we look like idiots. Every time we go to Saizeria to enjoy the screaming kids and shouting adults whilst trying to enjoy some food, will be the last if we have to wear such ridiculous masks while eating.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

@Samit; It seems South Korea has an acceleration in cases as well

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-southkorea-idUSKCN24Q01Y

It is true that even after adjusting for population South Korea's acceleration is less than Japan's there is still an acceleration.

My point is that I would take a solution from any country, regardless if I have a problem with them or not. If South Korea has a great solution I think that would be wonderful!!

I do not know if Saizeria's mask will work or not (I am highly skeptical) but at least they are trying!

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I wonder how hard it is to eat Saizeriya chicken wings with this mask on.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Saizeriya is full of kids because it is a cheap eatery.I'm sure some kids came up with the idea and this clown thought it was a great idea.. unbelievable for an adult and more so the president to take up the idea and show it to the rest of the world..

Doesn't this remind you of how toilet paper hangs off the holder on the wall?

9 ( +15 / -6 )

Well. Good on him for trying to find extra measure to protect his staff and customers. However, it is said people should avoid touching their masks unless they have washed or sanitize their hands. Also I do not believe the chance of spreading the virus is high when you are eating a meal. Even when you are eating and talking at the same time I believe the risk is relatively low. If you are really worried about talking can send out airborne droplets, it is easier if you use one of your hands to cover your mouth while you talk. Just remember to wash and sanitize it later.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Nice one, Peter

"We want people to enjoy dining out even in the time of the coronavirus calamity,"

Nice idea, but not 100% effective. You may think you are protecting yourself, but there is still too much exposure to circulating air which contains the virus.

Support your local eateries by getting carry out or delivery and enjoy eating in not dining out.
