Is it really news when a mediocre, has been, stagnant company makes a move?

GE doing something similar to be more competitive. Toshiba is not alone dealing with this problem.

Successful electronic companies in Japan today are corporations specializing in limited fields and managed by charismatic directors. Big corporations covering many fields become slow in decisions and management inefficient.

Since spinning off Kioxia, Toshiba has been struggling.

Toshiba had some big issues a few years ago and seems to be on the outs.

Smart move? we will see!! Often times it's better to be focused rather than having your fingers in many holes, and Remember the bigger you are the harder you fall.

that should help the other branches not get bogged down by the nuclear white elephant

The new norm of the Japanese corporate world. Who's next?

But Toshiba is not alone in deciding that a sprawling conglomerate may not be the best fit for the times.

What they really mean is that they cannot adapt to the 21st century.

Go to any major Japanese former tech powerhouses try using their website.

You could put the exact info needed to find a driver, to find a part, to even find a retail product they make. Good luck spending half the day on the site and still not finding any of it.

Go to the help chat and all you will get is recommendations to call support that will try and get you to agree to have an "official" retail service guy go over to your place.

Now try the same with rival non J Corps and they want nothing to do with dealing with end user so you find the items fast and simply

@Antiquesaving,

Spot on.

I ordered a high precision microphone from a Japanese company for a friend back in the UK who works in the health and safety field.

I had to go to the trouble of downloading a generic order form, printing it out, filling it out in ink,and then faxing it back to them.

I didn't even get a thank you from them.

Toshiba's split will hand a huge win for foreign investors who can finally own Japanese assets. Just be careful of a Bakumatsu!

The present Tech companies are not any better, try Yahoo Auction as a seller, you will pull out all your hair. the site is a total mess, no support by phone or email, a support bot that is fetches the wrong answers 99 percent of the time. You owe and there is no means to pay even if you want to, the invoices incomprehensible, no differentiation between paid and pending invoices. you write they don't reply. Try topping your Paypay Appli and using that nonsense facial recognition they have, you will be lucky to reach the final stage that is taking of your picture without losing your senses as the verdict after going through all that hassle will be that the pics don't match hence wrong person. So much obsession with promotion than with providing a site that is easy to use and navigate. Should be among the worst three sites on the planet run by a multi billion dollar company.
