Good Job seven-eleven!

I will buy more things at your stores here in Japan!

Why not stopping business alltogether and withdrawing from the barbarian land for good? Remember, this is no end. Their "patriotic" nitpicking will go on.

In next 30 years Taiwan will be critical point not even on Far East but World. Consider to change your Constitution.

Perhaps the Japanese retailer can appease them by also changing the name to “Seven & Xi Holdings” ?

*- **Japanese retailer Seven & i Holdings Co's China-based 7-Eleven convenience store business has been fined for describing Taiwan as an independent country on its website, Chinese authorities said Friday.*

23 ( +25 / -2 )

We all have to live by the rules of the nations in which we choose to live or do business in, and China is NO DIFFERENT.

-34 ( +3 / -37 )

It is an independent country, and what's the big deal?

The current Tsai Ing-wen administration of the Republic of China maintains that Taiwan is already an independent country as the ROC and thus does not have to push for any sort of formal independence.

29 ( +31 / -2 )

Meanwhile China makes map globes that favour their opinion and sells them to the world.

20 ( +20 / -0 )

I thought China and Taiwan were divorced a long time ago after a big fight. Why China is still chasing Taiwan badly? It sounds like "You still belong to me. You can't go anywhere".

25 ( +25 / -0 )

The simple rule is LOVE it or LEAVE it, so if anyone want's to worship the Chinese money they have no choice but to love the Chinese rules.

-14 ( +8 / -22 )

It isn't a country is it?

-25 ( +3 / -28 )

The 7-Eleven in China will have to change its website map to please the Chinese authorities if they want to continue doing business there. But will they also change Senkaku to “Diaoyu’?

11 ( +11 / -0 )

It is a country with an independent government.

22 ( +27 / -5 )

When was the last time you read good news coming out of China?

27 ( +30 / -3 )

Getting punished for telling the truth and stating facts. That’s so chinese.

24 ( +26 / -2 )

Well deserved fine.. Anti-china whiners on fire!!.. Lol..

While under normal circumstances any company carrying out business in a foreign country simply needs to abide by that country's laws and rules, in this case we all know that this is how the Chinese dictatorship operates; erasing, re-writing and altering facts which conflict with the CCP's official position. And punishing those who do not comply. Good for Seven and i Holdings. All foreign companies should do the same. Their presence in China, allowing the Chinese people access to their products is part of keping them satisfied with the CCP. It's not a one way street.

In Communist nations the big foreign-op companies are controlled by the government. The same goes for non-Communist nations that practice socialism. But that doesn't mean that these corporations should kiss Communist ass. Good for 7-11.

And China wonders why they are the most disliked country in the world.

Dancing with the devil always leads to severely hurt feet.

I would like very much to believe this was something done completely on purpose, but it is obvious it was a careless mistake and 7 eleven never intended to support Taiwan against the economic interest it has on the Chinese market.

Japan's 7-Eleven in China fined for describing Taiwan as country

Wow! Bad news!

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Its amusing to say the least.

Don't be surprised if china shuts the stores down completely.

Whether you like China or not you can't deny the truth.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Scaaaarrrrryyyy…. More weird stuff coming out of China.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Isn't that the saying? You wanna bathe in money from China, then play by the rules.

Well done to this brilliant and ethical Japanese company, 7-Eleven. Recognizing Taiwan as an independent nation, where the US and Japanese governments still refuse to do so.

Keep supporting Taiwan and standing up to Communist China, 7-Eleven. Definitely makes me want to buy many more products from them!

6 ( +8 / -2 )

It is a country with an independent government.

But the US should grow a spine and recognize Taiwan diplomatically. ASAP.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Why single out the US when it's most countries that don't recognise Taiwan diplomatically? There's nothing stopping other countries from leading the charge to recognise Taiwan.

The US is the leader of the free, democratic world. Fact. They need to act first. As soon as the US recognize Taiwan, Japan and other democratic nations will immediately follow suit.

7/11 should open a bunch of these in Taiwan and shutter the ones in the land of Winnie Xi China.

7/11 should open a bunch of these in Taiwan and shutter the ones in the land of Winnie Xi China.

I’d like to see that happen actually, and Taiwan should go further and penalize any company that refers to China as a country. It’d be funny, but it might start a war.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

7/11 should open a bunch of these in Taiwan and shutter the ones in the land of Winnie Xi China.

Rest assured, Japan built many of their 7-11 convenis in Taiwan a long time ago.

I agree that 7-Eleven should not be doing ANY business in Communist China.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

chump change for 7&i, the main point is whether 7&i stuck to their guns and kept the same website/maps, or if they were threatened by china to change them or cease doing business in china.

unfortunately in most cases, companies choose business at the end of the day, and companies end up bowing down to china...

China became a big bully in south east Asia.

The authorities also criticized the company for displaying maps that do not contain Chinese names for the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands, claimed by Beijing, as well as for several islets in the South China Sea.

Japan should look at Chinese companies operating in Japan and check any maps they may display, and finding any not containing Japanese names for the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands, as well as for several islets in the South China Sea, they should be condemned and censured.

Chinese companies in Japan NOT describing Taiwan as an independent nation on their websites should be fined the same amount 7-11 was fined.

Unacceptable behavior from China yet again.

Good job Seven Eleven (Holdings)! Time to pull out of China. They are going to take your stores away anyway.

Please do your homework and read history.

But the US should grow a spine and recognize Taiwan diplomatically. ASAP.

Does Japan recognize Taiwan diplomatically?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

It was likely just an innocent mistake-- it's doubtful that 7-11 wants to wade into the swamp of international politics. That said, maybe 7-11 in Japan can make up the fines by selling "Free Taiwán" t-shirts and other accessories. I hear they make excellent gifts.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

If Taiwan is a part of China, it stands to reasons, that China is a part of the Mongol Empire, and USA, Canada and Malaysia belongs to UK.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If Taiwan ever becomes independent, I'm sure China will make their own island on their so called territorial waters. Anyway, applause for 7-Eleven for making a stand in their belief! Much more than I can say for the Olympic committee.

The person in charge at 711 Japan said.

"We take it seriously and thoroughly prevent recurrence"

Looks not so admirable

Blame only the Chinese Government, most of the locals are actually quite nice people, far better than the pompous Cantonese.

All Cantonese I knew/know are actually quite nice people.

So are Koreans I knew/know from US/Canada/South Korea.

Tired of the Chinese dictating their nationalistic spiel all the time-tiresome!

1 ( +1 / -0 )

If you wallow in the midden for money you end up stinking. I wish this had been done intentionally but alas it was probably a mistake and the company will quickly grovel and lick the CCP’s fat arses in apology.

Peter14, agree, what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander!

Exactly, by China's logic any country that fights for independence is forever a rogue nation that should eventually "reunify" for the greater good of the people lol.
