More fear based demand and fewer farmers is the actual reason for the hike.

Maybe the govt. should stop limiting rice harvesting. They should also get rid of that fear inducing panic message on our TVs for two weeks straight.

all was started with gov panicking news abt typhoon this and that so there was a herd reaction.
artificially produced panic abt shortage of rice brought nice extra profits to supermarkets.
as simple as is.
we just get new rice from local farmer.same price as last year.no chemicals,no extra supermarket charges.you know what you eat.
dont get fooled.there is no shortage of rice and no reason to hike price at all.there just a greed behind of all of it

The rice I ordered is not local. It's from a young farmer in Okayama through a friend network. Delivered too for the same price.

My favorite Asian store closed and sold rice at 20% off. I can send 7 fifteen pound bags to Japan if someone can foot the mailing bill. I imagine that when the crop comes in there will be plenty of rice. The price won't come down all the way because the middle-men will pocket some money, but it might still come down a little.
