Glad I drive a diesel. Runs on the smell of an oily rag.

No more subsidies, stop profiting these companies. Time to activate trigger clause:

What's backfiring? Buying oil from Russia would be an immoral disgrace. Better to not have any oil at all than to support the invaders.

Buy oil from Russia.
The US is still importing around 1/3 of its Uranium from Russia, despite forcing all their buddies to agree to their sanctions.
Why should the average folk in Japan keep suffering because of these pointless sanctions?
Strangerland
Because the alternative is dealing with Russia.
If they were to do that, they would deserve it when Russia uses that money to invade Japan in a few years.

The difference between 2008 and now? No mention of that in the article.
The current debacle is mostly the predicted result of the manipulation of the yen(Abe's broken arrows), nearly halving the value of the yen. Back then, the yen was strong but the oil price was very high. Now, however, the oil price is moderate(despite the foolish anti-Russia sanctions), but the we're paying for the weakness of the yen (thanks Abe!).
How about producing bio-diesel!?

The situation in Ukraine is a little bit more complicated than a thuggish land grab by Putin.
As for the US, what is their excuse for doing business with Russia? I thought they were 100% behind Ukraine... weird that.
Strangerland
No it's not. That's exactly what it was.
Sorry, was I not supposed to point out the truth? My bad.

Indeed largely due to the Abenomics that destroyed the value of the JPY which is a disaster except for salarymen working for large exporting companies and people with enough money to invest in the stock market or take FX exposure.
Your average Japanese just saw his purchasing power destroyed by inflation.

Japan stayed the course with its monetary policy. Its peers have not. They suddenly hiked their rates to choke off their higher levels of inflation. That’s mainly why the yen is so weak, or rather why the dollar and other currencies are so strong.

Strangerland.....
You do realize that Japan and many other sanctioning countries are buying Russian oil? Knowingly?
Oil trading is a funny old game. Russian oil shipped to India, then shipped to Japan is Indian oil.

15 years! 15 can you believe it! Guess some will be burdened by this. Won’t effect me too much, I don’t drive, I walk cycle or use public transport. I’m eco friendly you see.
