Holy crap! This is the making of another Takata airbag crisis. Cutting quality corners to save costs is never good!

I do not think using common components across multiple models is cutting corners. It can mean that multiple models share things like the CANBus controller, instruments (different facias for different models but the same guts behind the different facias), common infotainment systems, common engine, suspension and brake components, window lift components, switches and the like.
