When he shut down production in the U.S. and gave more power to OPEC, what did Joe expect would happen?

Typical Right Wing misinformation. If you mean Biden he has zero control over the price of gasoline. U.S. Oil and Gas production is at all time high but all that Oil and Gas goes on to the World market. U.S. Oil and Gas production has never been strictly for the U.S. market since the 70s.

It would be a lot cheaper if they took off the 20 yen per liter extra tax that was added on for the Iraq war. A few years ago, it was removed but the Gov. re instated the tax again some months later and it has stayed on ever since.

For as long as we continue to use gasoline engines we will always be SLAVES to this corrupt industry.

@Thomas Goodtime

It isn't nonsense. Maybe exaggerated but China definitely has power shortage problems. Particularly in the North East.

zichi: "I haven't owned or driven a car since 1979, 42 years. It's a gas, gas, gas."

I'm a few years behind you, but haven't owned one for a long time either (did drive one when traveling overseas, out of necessity). The money you save on parking and gas alone, not even taking the biannual car check into account, is amazing.

BTW, the price for a liter of regular gas where I live is at 169 yen. It's always about 10-20 yen higher than everywhere else. It'll probably go over 170 in the next few days.

What I don't understand is last year when a barrel of oil was priced at -minus zero dollars due to the dramatic reduction in demand due to the pandemic and hardly any travel. But we didn't see any of that at the pumps. The prices stayed high throughout last year. What gives. It seems to only go up but not down.

So glad I gave up having a car in 2008. Cars don't allow 'freedom'. They end up owning you.

Do you see that?

Japan needs energy!

Yet some foolish users want to push the agenda for Japan to turn off all the Nuclear Power Plants Forever.

No more nuclear-powered cars???? Oh no!!!!

Happy Day

Since he's not the President of Japan, the cost of fuel in Japan probably didn't occur to him.

All the more reason to move towards a renewable/electric approach to personal transportation. I enjoy gas-powered sports cars as much as anyone else, but we've been stuck on this gas price roller coaster for decades now. It's time to move on to a new approach.

The equivalent of £1.05 per litre! I wish, haven’t seen petrol that cheep for so many years I can’t remember when. Currently equivalent to about 216.6 yen per litre and some some greedy scalpers recently were charging 321.8 yen.

How much would energy cost then? ?

End up like China where you have to turn off the power for half the day. That's what this people are pushing on Japan. Fiction and renewable dreams of fantasy.

Prices for petrol are rising through the region.

They are at AUD $1.84 per liter in Melbourne right now. Thats 153.65 Yen. Highest it has been in many years.

Electric vehicles + nuclear power plants is the realistic solution to the global warming and the gasoline importation dependency.

I own a car, bicycle, and routinely beg others for rides.

If higher prices fix the sleeping/idling crowd then I will be truly amazed

Few months back there was a news on JT about closing Petroleum refinery up north due to low demand (fishy*). Finally its paying off to oil corps.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Good thing is, its still available unlike some countries. Time to go fully hybrid at least.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Hope that high prices will help to stop the useless car idling so common here.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

The price of gas in Japan would be considered a bargain in some countries of Europe.

Started travelling to work by bicycle pre-covid about 4 years ago. Never looked back. Exercise, free ( bike cost 40,000yen which paid for itself in less than a year) and faster than commuting with the salary zombies to shibuya then changing to shinagawa). I recommend everyone to ditch the gas guzzling cars and busses and cycle.

FYI not everyone in Japan lives in Tokyo, and in fact, many of us own economical cars, hybrids, clean diesel, or electric.

Cant count on public transportation either.

Another "Tokyo-centric" post!

Always gets my blood pressure up when gasoline prices rise here. ENOS and other suppliers have plenty of "stock" on hand, and yet jack their prices in an instant, their excuse being the rise is linked to future purchases of gas, ok fine.

BUT, they are slower than guano in dropping the prices when costs go down.

And the government response? It does after all effect multitude layers of society? Any word yet? I can understand ignoring food hikes, after all a quick look around a normal house reveals a bounty of protein. Power /utilities prices, well many houses have little if any insulation so no problem there.I can understand the silence, because it does not play any part in their lives.

Switched to public transport years ago and have never looked back. I can read on my way to work, and my company reimburses me.

That's all very well, but you'll still end up paying for the fuel price hikes through other things you consume. Producers and distribution companies will be passing on those costs to the rest of the economy.

It looks like we're about to enter a period of stagflation, brought on by the economic hangover from covid plus the profligate currency printing without the productivity and consumption to absorb it.

It's going to be a rough ride for a while, so stock up on non-perishables while you can.

seems funny that for an island nation and technology it could have tried to make grid connected vehicles and roads a renewable energy goal. Then it could transport without fuel

And the PM appointed has said nothing about this? Well he did I guess…”we need to increase the economy before” worrying about people’s cost of living. …..sorry I had to vomit into my bag made from news papers I’d taken from homeless people.

Costco is usually much cheaper than anywhere else by 10-15yen so I usually fill up when I go which is 1-2x a month.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Currently 140 yen per liter where I fill up my car.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

It sure jumped since we got our new car earlier this year. Diesel was 105 at my first fillup. It's 138 now!

I'm glad for the higher full economy and lower price of diesel compared to that of gasoline vehicles. But, I'm really looking forward to our next vehicle, which will be a full BEV.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Driving is too cheap and subsidised anyway.
