BMW just suspended future manufacture of the Mini in the UK, Honda is leaving , UK car manufacturing is down 14% from last year and expected to drop another 2~3% this year, and this is even before they've negotiated a trade deal. wait until those tariffs kick in the Brexit of Uk manufacturing has just started

Let's see how 60 million-ish people’s representatives do against half a billion-ish people’s representatives.

The fastest the EU has negotiated a free trade deal with another nation was 2 years, with South Korea. This is not going to be swift. Prices in UK will absolutely rise, since they are a net importer of goods, and living standards drop.

EU will win this negotiation!

Come December 31st if no deal is reached then the U/EU will have to use the WTO rules on trade.

and the WTO rules stipulate that tariffs will need to be imposed, make no mistake the last thing the UK wants is a WTO dictating their FTA with the EU, man I wouldn't want to be Boris for the next year hes going to be torn a new bhole once the EU have finished with him. Boris needs to convince all EU member states .. goodluck. lol

Zichi is right, freedom from EU means fresh oportunities for trade. Australia I know for one is very keen to expand trade with the UK.

So after all the celebrations and fireworks and Big Ben and Union Jacks on Downing Street, what are you going to do now? Now means reality. In real life there is still austerity, poor public transport, waiting for Doctors appointments, poor education standards, crime. Who will they blame that all on now?

I have never felt so alienated from my fellow countrymen. When interviewed whilst celebrating in Parliament Square their reasons included "sovereignty"! The UK never lost its sovereignty. These Brexit voters are simply not educated. They then broke into choruses of God save the queen. Ask your queen how her non-tax paying children have behaved in life. And you want God to save her..?

Sold again for English gold.

Scots wha' hae

Tigertokyodome:

Who will they blame that all on now?

The Scots. Then after they leave, the Welsh, north Irish, immigrants, etc. Always a scapegoat.

A deal with the US will be unfavourable to the UK as Trump knows he'll have the upper hand.

So much negativity and insecurity. Small island, maybe.

But Japan is a small island too, and Taiwan, and Singapore, and New Zealand, and........

Time to think again about the British Union.

An Independent Scotland in Europe.

Not even a day has elapsed and we realise that Gibraltar has been thrown under the bus. Spain will pressurise the EU not to permit EU trade into Gibraltar unless the UK renegotiates Gibraltar. No more EU protection for Gibraltar.

You see, Johnson and Farage either don't have the foresight or don't care about such real geographical problems due to Brexit.

I hope the Scots get their independence and rejoin the EU. And I'm English.

Watching the Brexit mess unfold over the past few years made me feel relieved that I was watching the show from afar.

And now I can watch as the UK government shows to the world and the British public how just incompetent they as they struggle to negotiate FTA... And you know that the sheep who were conned will be the first to voice their anger.. (Many in the North already are after they voted themselves out of a job) Well you've made your bed. Now go and lay in it!!

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The idiots who voted my country into this mess were encapsulated on BBC Radio celebrating in Parliament Square last night. When interviewed it was embarrassing.

The best they could reason for why they were celebrating was to regain their sovereignty (I doubt they understand what that really means), how the country would be great again (yep, Donny has his prints all over that quote), and then broke into choruses of God save the queen (no, unfortunately not the Sex Pistols version).

Idiots needed karaoke style screens to teach them the words and they still couldn't sing in time.

Freedom from tyranny. Are you mad or what

The best they could reason for why they were celebrating was to regain their sovereignty

I watched it on BBC live this morning (last night GMT). An interview with two old dears gushing over how this was what they'd always wanted, sovereignty! the interviewer asked them what they meant, they said freedom from EU laws, the UK could now make its own laws and not be ruled from Brussels. Specifically which EU laws did they object to, the interviewer asked. Both ladies were reduced to staring wide-eyed and flapping their lips like a pair of goldfish.

No answer.

The UK will have to use WTO rules for trading with all countries it wants to trade with but has no trade agreement. America, Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand to name a few.

...and the UK can make trade agreements with all of them, without interference from the Brussels Eurocrats.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@zichi and flight compensation for flights that are delayed or cancelled. All protected by EU law and something that will soon be gone!

It's amazing just how many benefits the British have voted themselves out of. I hope that they enjoy becoming Little America....

4 ( +5 / -1 )

The UK is in Europe. Why be happy about being free to trade with Australia or Japan? Did anyone study geography at school? Why free yourself from doing business with your neighbours to go and trade with countries on the other side of the world.? And just one more question - just what exactly does the UK have to trade? We sold off all of our professional trades. It's a service industry nation.

Small local British businesses trade with Europe. Not Australia.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

America, Canada, Australia, Japan, New Zealand to name a few.

...and the UK can make trade agreements with all of them

That part is the easiest.

Trading goods with other continents and, working at so different times, it's totally different logistics.

Getting a delivery by truck ( 1/2 day to 2 days max over EU), versus intercontinental airfreight (3 days mini door to door if you pay a fortune, 10 days if you pay 4 times the freight of the truck), or boat (months, costs at least twice the truck)...

So far, if London needs something, they can call Paris or Roma or Frankfurt or ... during their office/shop/factory hours : "Hey, breakdown, we need Z for tomorrow...-We don't have Z on shelves...we have X, we can cut...-It's perfect. -OK, you get tomorrow morning.." ". But if they call Toronto, Tokyo or Auckland, in the middle of their night...

So either they get back to same agreement with EU... or UK is no longer doing premium Just In Time industry (no more car industry, aeronautics, etc).

My estimation is within this year they will renew 90% or more of trade, industry, produce, pharmacy agreements with EU. Other way, they would get crazy disruptions or price hikes.

without interference from the Brussels Eurocrats.

And the deals they'll get will be less advantageous. So when they'll see the product made in Canada is sold cheaper to EU than to UK, they'll order via EU.

This is a wonderful step forward in the battle to stop the attempt of socalists and their supporters from trying to impose their rule on the world. I am very happy for England to have its own world back. It was a great mistake to build the tunnel under the Channel and to break the wall of the Sea that defended the country. Now they can set up walls again. They do not need free trade with Europe just wait for the EU to collapse and all of the socalists to scurry back to their own countries.

Congrats Great Britain.

Ahahahaha. This is sarcasm, right?

Maybe Johnson can trade wooden crates of tea on galleon ships, or ride chainmail-suited knights into Jerusalem..?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

No, sadly any deal is very unlikely to happen soon, especially since the EU has handed Spain the task of ultimate approver for any deal - this is significant, since Spain has an ongoing dispute with the UK over Gibraltar, and want it back (even it the local Residents don't want that), so unless Spain gets Gibraltar, it's very unlikely any form of deal will happen.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The EU is really showing how Childish it is, first they used Ireland to cause a block on Brexit, now Spain on any form of agreement. This is yet another example of how dysfunctional Europe has become.

@zichi

Roaming charges seem to be a fixation for you

.

Well, they are easy to avoid.

Either a separate sim or phone will negate roaming.

And wifi is all over the place in the UK
