Didn't Japan build a conventional railway in Thailand a number of years ago, only to have the Thai government nationalize it and boot the building company out?

Well it looks as if Taiwan do not agree since they are switching from the French system to the Japanese. Earthquake in France especially in the range of 6.0+, don't think so.

SamuraiBlue, tokyobakayaro was being sarcastic. Japanese tech is obviously better

The TGV is cool, but yes, Japan and Taiwan are more similar, bad earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons etc...and the Taiwanese seem to really LOVE Japan, unlike China.

Taiwan adopted French technology concerning this field.

Sure. Many earthquakes happen every year in France, tsunami and volcano eruption. That country is so used to such problems happening to its population and to the buildings, french learned how to adapt the technology of its trains and buildings to deal with mother nature.

Japanese can surely learn something from them about trains and earthquakes...even if they started building bullet trains almost 20 years before the french.

The Japanese Shinkansen has never had a single death except for possible one caused by a closing door (it's written on wiki but no direct reference) and only one derailment while carrying passengers caused by the 6.8 magnitude Chuetsu earthquake in 2004 to which there were no fatalities. By contrast Chinese high-speed has been marred by a long list of problems not the least of which is corruption and most notably the Wenzhou collision accident caused by a lightning strike which killed 40 people. And this is despite very similar frequency of trips.

China's operation management system is a hodgepodge of German, French and indigenous systems which was the root cause of the accident 2 years ago.

"...with technology for the running of its bullet train operations, including earthquake response measures,..."

Earthquake response technology from China and Europe? Possible but very doubtful.

@bruce - the track costs around 15 million US$/ km, and needs to be maintained. So HSR is a massive investment, and only works where there is a high density of people close to the tracks and stations.

I do not believe JR had ever transferred any operation management technology to China. Taiwan adopted French technology concerning this field. Japan is the only nation that has operation management technology that has earthquake response measures.

Vanspeace...And you would know the Chinese have better technology...how?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

China said to Japan that they would only use the Train Technology inside China, cause they Leapfrogged most technlology from Japan and europe from technology transfers. In fact China made their Trains in 7 Years. Not even doors were designed locally and cannot export train technology cause they would get caught.

vanspeaceMar. 24, 2013 - 09:02AM JST Chinese actually have a similar/a bit better technology. Dont be selectively blind.-----------------------------------------------------

You must be blind. Where do you think they stole the technology from. I won't mention Japan in case you think I am biased. Look also to Europe.

Vanspeace - the Chinese have similar tech because they copied so much from Japan. As for better, I think not.

This technology a vast improvement in Canada's Northlands over the current very long hard to maintain fuel intensive highway and gasoline/rubber tires system. Oil Sands need this service, Edmonton to Calgary , even East to Winnipeg. Cheaper safer and almost as fast as fuel intensive jet flights too!

Offer, like, for how much? That will be a way to enslave a customer for future procurement orders. Be careful when a vendor approaches you before you approach them. What seems to be cheap could be costly in the long run.

Better than being blatantly copied by China.
