Yes, Coca-Cola is made globally. Take Japan for instance. all equipment in the syrup plant, all of the ingredients in the syrup and containers is made in Japan, sugar, uniforms, trucks, hand trucks, bottles, caps, refrigeration, I can go on and on. I know what I am talking about as I was plant superintendent in a Coca-Cola syrup plant and later as general sales of a coca-Cola bottling company.

Coca-Cola in Japan is name only, as are most other American processed food and beverages in Japan. In the early 80's MITI would take American tourist to super markets to point out American products. Much to the surprise of the tour guide at one of the supermarkets, I explained to the Americans that the products being shown were American in name only, 100% produced in Japan.

By erecting a 40% tariff on imported cars during the 70s, while they targeted freer foreign markets. The Japanese think that protection of important or vulnerable industries is fine for them to do, but if anyone does likewise, then watch out.

I am not selling books, I have only one copy. This book is based on true facts and these facts continue on today. Japan was surprised when the world stood by in confusion and let them do it.

dude thats an out dated book written at the height of Japanese economic power, you could change the title to "The Chinese Conspiracy" 2018 and itll still sell some books. Americans love to bash when somebody else is kicking their butts in world trade.

Yes, I will explain the authors points. The Japanese Conspiracy published in 1983 explains Japans plan to target,invade and destroy other countries industries with unfair trade, such as bribes, under the table double invoicing, disguised commissions, rebates and etc, while at the same time making Japanese consumers pay high domestic prices to support the invasion.

Once a countries industry has been destroyed by Japan, and Japanese products are dominant, then the Japanese manufactures raise prices in the country they targeted. They are now in control. What was once America's TV industry is a good example of many.

At the same time, many restrictive trade barriers were set in place to keep out competitive products from other countries.

Even to day, Japan has many hidden trade barrier import requirements that drive up the cost of imported goods. Those that import, know this well. I have imported vegetables, cheese, fruit, fruit juice, coffee, 40 foot containers of Pork and processed food and other, so I know personally of some of these many trade barriers. Unfortunately many, not in trade, are not aware of trade barriers.

Japan government worried for US consumers on the increased cost and lose of jobs due to the tariff increase while it doesn't give a damn about the high cost j consumers have been made to pay due to lack of competition or tariffs or the chronic stagnation of income and increasing poverty.

Trump does not listen to his own advisers, he will not listen to Japan or anyone else. Only his opinions count, not facts or problems of others.

This should surprise nobody.

Japanese auto factories in the US (and their suppliers) are by and large concentrated in deep red states (Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas). Almost certainly, many of these employees whose jobs are now at risk were Trump voters. I guess they didn't think that Trump's trade war routine would impact them, but we are about to find out very soon.

Let the American workers revolt what Trump govt. will bring on unemployment issues, let all countries who are against this tariff to state the compliance with the WTO agreements or retaliate Trump administrative policies on tariff the same card. Let the Japanese companies withdraw and stop to invest on this Trump governing period, and probably soon Trump will come again to change his mind. And, Japan's govt. shut your mouth up!

But growing up in the US I do recall reports of Detroit's planned obsolescence and its disregard for what lots of us car buyers wanted. The Japanese and German car makers did their homework and found out what we did want.

Then Detroit got the government to bail them out when things went south for them. Is that the conspiracy you mentioned?

On a side note, it's interesting that Honda cars sold in the US are considered among those that could be defined as being 'mostly made in America'.

I have zero sympathy for Detroit. Or whatever the US industry is called these days.

Given that one of Hillary's supposed downsides was that she "took speaking fees" from Goldman Sachs and other establishment financial firms, why should Trump's being a billionaire be any recommendation for what he can do for the US? Not to mention that it's not as if he worked for that - his Daddy got him set up with millions and a company that was already doing well. Given that he's had a couple of bankruptcies and we've never seen his tax forms, we have no idea if he actually is a billionaire or not. I'd rather have somebody who isn't a billionaire but still has some scraps of human decency in charge of the country. Never thought I'd say this but Trump makes George W Bush look good.

Creating sales and port jobs, yes. Designing and some marketing too. Factory jobs too, but not what you might think. Most of the tech firms associated with the Japanese auto industry went to the US quietly, under the radar. The most important parts of cars are still imported from Japan and NOT made in the U.S.

Automotive technology revolves around the drivetrain. Look at any imported car, say Honda.
