The yen is double what it was 10 years ago, so let's not get melodramatic.
One thing you can count on is that exchange rates are always variable.

Its not just a Japan recession, people all over the world is feeling this recession. The world economies printed more money than they had and now its time to pay back. The world is broke so who do they look to fix it? The people who work that they will tax to death to get them back to where they THINK they should be!!!

Trade deficits are not necessarily a bad thing. The US always has a big trade deficit and its no problem. It means with some countries that they are consuming a lot. Money to spend on imports. On the other hand, I am reading a book from 1987 and Japan had huge trade surpluses.
