Go woke, go broke.

Just make quality products that consumers actually want.

"... reduce per-vehicle manufacturing CO2 emissions by 52% ...."

Tell us again how mining for rare earth metals and manufacturing the massive batteries (which have a relatively short useful life) does less damage to the environment than something like bio-diesel.

CO2 is not the boogeyman it is purported to be.

Inclusivity, isn't many companies that being listed globally do that? What so special then?

Inclusivity is part of the measures that increase quality products, better companies make better things and provide better services.

Yes, it is, it is not rational to pretend all the scientist in the world are wrong about something so serious and well studied.

Any links to reputable scientific organizations that agree?

Tagawa said the Nissan Social Program 2030 is centered around six pillars: safety, quality, responsible sourcing, intellectual property, communities and empowering employees.

Instead of some green washing and labor friendly 'red washing' in a press release how about Nissan address problems it and the industry is intimately connected with?

They have a lot of weight to throw around as a modern day zaibatsu and beneficiary of LDP economic policies and corporate welfare.

How about the hostage justice system and differential treatment between their CEOs Saikawa and Ghosn?

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/09/09/nissan-ceo-saikawa-to-step-down-on-september-16.html

How about the rampant falsification of safety data in the industry and lack of consequences for those responsible?

How about the decades of stagnant wages and gaps between productivity and pay that they tried to address by bringing in immigrant labor and outsourcing that yet persist?

That could be more socially-conscious overall.

Hervé L'Eisa

Go woke, go broke.

Trust in Hervé to make a comment inappropriately using a phrase to push their own agenda.

The ones who are not going broke from climate change denial are fossil fuel combines and ME feudal monarchies.

that diversity boilerplate talk by nissan only applies outside japan, right?

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

""Nissan Motor Co has outlined a “sustainability plan” to become a greener and more inclusive company, promising to recycle batteries, empower its workers and create safer cars.""

Talk is cheap. just do it then talk about the accomplishments.

For a start how about stop making Regular Gas and Diesel powered automobiles ?

"people centric" Nissan manager: "it's only 9pm, why you getting ready to go home ?".

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

As long as they sell cars at a cheap price that function, who cares?

If diversity drives up the cost of their cars by 10,000 yen, I will be happy to save some money and buy one from an undiverse company.

empowering employees

…to collude with Tokyo prosecutors? I’ll pass. Nissan image is tarnished when it comes to taking care of their employees.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Nissan don't pay there suppliers properly.

Sign a contract on a price for parts then try and get them cheaper.

Car companies are disgusting.

Recycling=check! Safe cars check.Net zero=check. I'm preparing for the calculation problem on that one in 2050. Empower its workers, cough cough BS. Nice platitudes, but sticky your head up when you see accounting problems, mechanical problems, that'll cost millions, and you're gonna get ( insert possible consequences). BS. It reminds me of the craze when we stopped calling people workers and called them "partners". Or cleaners, Hygiene engineers. Please DEFINE empowerment, or diverse, that doesn't include endless meetings.

...says pay of managers will reflect their efforts in diversity and sustainability.

What not to do when you need to grow the bottom line. If you hold stock, now would be a good time to exit.

They dropped their last big employee in jail.

This article belongs in the comic section. A Japanese company that makes gas guzzlers suddenly wants to be inclusive and sustainable? A non sequitur.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

It's all BS to please the ESG mob like BlackRock so these big investors will buy their stock. As Herve said first, just make stuff that people want to buy at reasonable prices and hire the best people you can afford to pay regardless of some characteristic that's fashionable at the moment.

Ah yes, that dirty old CO2 that plants (that we also grow for food) and forests process via photosynthesis (remember JHS Science?) and release O2 for the animal kingdom to breathe.

Any links to reputable scientific organizations that agree with you CO2 is not a problem, or is this your own theory?

Nissan is...gone.
