Hunt in your own waters Japan!

I cannot understand the point.

Japanese bank have big asset and money, they can buy many foreign companies, etc, etc... But they don't give any fund to Japanese developpers since 2004. So as result Japanese Real estate business is in recession and Land price are going down in Japan.

blackfeet>no/low profit in Japanese real estate, therefore no investment domestically and after being stung so badly back then why would you try again?

and as for the Japanese banks and their rise in the foreign acquisition trail, it must really annoy the people who considered the Japanese financial sector as being poor relations compared to other countries.

Land prices, outside of local "hot spots", will decline and decline and decline and decline. Japan is built out, no more road are needed no more housing is needed, no more schools are needed, no more stores are needed etc. The landscape of Japan is littered with shuttered schools, offices shops and houses. Outside city center "hot spots" the countryside is rapidly becoming devoid of people so of course there is no demand for land. But the big risk of going shopping for banks is that the US dollar could suddenly loose half its value.

Hunt in your own waters Japan!

Actually some foreign banks are willing to be hunted no need to look for them, some of them asked japanese banks for help and want to sell some of their own shares. Ironic isn't it ? especially for those who spent hours on this board talking about dying and indebted japanese mega banks....

Hunt in your own waters Japan!

Japanese banks, or any country's banks for that matter are allowed to hunt in whatever waters they want.

"The Americans have squandered unimaginable amounts of money"

Yeah, we're thinking of eliminating foreign aid.

Hmmm, at least the foreign aid is doing some good (generally)! The issue here is that most US institutions have cried "foul" when the government considered intervening in the "open markets". Now that they desperately need capital to cover their mistakes, it is incredibly hypocritical that they are welcoming a 700bio USD package. In fairness, the open markets can probably over this, and the Japanese banks injecting the cash needed might be a good solution. It isn't preferred though, as control may be wrested away from NY. The only good thing about the US goverment aid is the string whereby exec's pay is capped. Already there have been reports that ML's Thain is up for a 200mio USD bonus for his part in the BoA deal - given that there must have been over 7,000 job losses at ML, I think that would be completely unappropriate. Hopefully that won't come true and he'll have to survive on the 400k USD base salary for a year until the markets recover!

Sadly though, it was the Japanese taxpayers bailed out Japanese banks a few years ago, and will most likely be US taxpayers to do the same for the US banks.
