The EMA said the number of such cases is no higher than the number seen in the general population...

So I'm wondering what all the fuss is about.

30 cases of thromboembolic events among nearly 5 million people

Which is .0006%. Call me crazy, but I'm ok with those odds.

I guess if Japan can't get the Vaccine from others, they need to make their own. I guess better late than never. Quite late to the party it looks like..

-3 ( +9 / -12 )

This is the reason why the vaccine process has been so slow, Japan Inc wants a piece of the cake.

13 ( +17 / -4 )

@Sanchez/@koiwai

This is old news. Was agreed ago. Manufactured under license. No need for your purposeful negativity.

"Quite late to the party it looks like.."

Certainly.

More so when it's plainly obvious every other country (except Japan) is busy producing their own vaccines.

You've got to love this site!

China has offered to vaccinate Japanese athletes at the Tokyo Olympics. Hilarious

you knew Japan would reject the offer but the fact that China could make it speaks volumes.

If there's one thing I need more than a hole in the head, it's a blood clot from the AstraZeneca vaccine.

I dunno about this. There seems to be a lot of varied side effects coming from these vaccines that have been rushed through with limited clinical trials. I can’t help but think about the movie, I’m a legend. I reckon I’ll be waiting to get my shots.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

China usa doing extremely well in comparison with Japan.

here we get news like this one, while their news are talking about mask-free towns and cities.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Clearly some people need a little more sleep.

This is good news.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

China usa doing extremely well in comparison with Japan.

Doing well in lying for sure.

Offering an untested vaccine is not just stupid, it should be criminal.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

N.Knight - Rather than listen to scientists these kinds of Anti-vaxxers would rather be tin foil hat merchants.

Bwahaha! Tell that to the thousands of people around the world suffering side effects from the vaccines. Scientists are paid by the vaccine manufacturers to promote them. Perhaps you should have taken the blue pill.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

@stickman1760

All China is trying to do is profit off a Vaccine for a Virus they made.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

@Do The Hustle..

Waiting for shots? Nah, I am passing on this one. I have a higher chance of dying from the shot, than getting COVID, and dying. My family and I shall pass on this one!

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

You mean vaccine packaging, like making Coca Cola. A big difference, since it still beholden to the EU to provide the basic ingredients.

LOL another informed comment by a poster who has no idea what he is talking about. Dude guess who owns all the factories in the EU and UK that make the basics ingredients? Here is a story to help you:

FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies Welcomes UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to UK COVID-19 Vaccine Manufacturing Site

This is the vaccine people in various countries like Germany simple refuse to take, because of it being less effective I believe. The one apparently not tested on the aged so not used in many countries for the aged ( including in the plan for its use in Japan). The one not yet approved in the US. And the one suspended recently in some countries because of blood clotting issues

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

You can refuse the vaccine if you want but be prepared to spend the rest of your life in one place. At home.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

10 countries have now banned the vaccine.

Nothing to see here.

Don't worry, an anonymous internet poster purporting to be an expert will be along shortly to explain it all away.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

@stckman: i agree with you. Sadly, it probably won’t be like that. I WILL be having the vaccine as soon as pissible. I want life to return to normal. I want to travel, go to Concerts, get drunk in a crowd etc. That will all return, but those who refuse with no good reason will just slow the process down. These vaccines are not approved for Children, so when people like @Ricky Sanchez say ‘Nah..I am passing. My family and I will pass’, I find it very selfish.

The saddest thing for me from this Pandemic is watching all my friends Children, from those aged 5 to 22 years old missing out on a normal childhood. No school trips, Online lessons, No social interaction - the list is endless.

its going to be up to the 25 to 50 age group, as in those who might not particularly need it from a health perspective, but will play the role in normalizing life for everyone as a whole.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

There is no medical proof of a link between the AstraZeneca vaccine and blood clotting.

Nothing has been established yet but that won’t stop the hysterical types jumping the gun. Frightened of their own shadows.

30 cases of thromboembolic events among nearly 5 million people

Me too.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

This is also the vaccine not yet approved in Japan until they complete their own local Japanese trials of the drug ( apparently just a few hundred people thus immensely significant) although everyone assumes already this will be successful and it will be approved as soon as May .

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@bob. ‘Banned’. No, Suspended its use, in most case by a short period. Lets stick to the facts. As @Jimizo has correctly said, its 0.006%....that could have been caused from natural or a myriad of other reasons. You are missing the big picture. The world as a whole has never embarked on such a vast project like this in such a period of time.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Whilst in Europe they recall the Astra-zenica stuff....

Covid didn't do that. Hysterical politicians egged on by hysterical hypochondriacs did that. Lockdowns and masks, both proven useless and reckless, did that

its going to be up to the 25 to 50 age group, as in those who might not particularly need it from a health perspective, but will play the role in normalizing life for everyone as a whole.

Do't need it but HAVE to take it.

I think you need to read that back to yourself and wonder how you have arrived at this place you're in now.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

So together with the incoming pfizer shots vaccine supply seems reasonably assured now.

Hopefully syringes procuremenr can keep up

@bob must not live in Japan...normal lofe is happening here..

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No country has recalled the vaccine.

Ricky - I was referring to the situation in North America and Europe.

And if you think normal life is happening here in Japan, try to hop on a flight to see yer mom and dad tomorrow.

Get back to me on how that goes.

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

Exactly, normal life is not happening in Japan. It is anything but normal.

You could argue that point ( although I’d like to see links to a scientific consensus proving your claim that masks are ‘useless’ ), but surely a hysterical reaction to very few cases of thrombosis as yet not established to have had anything to do with the vaccine isn’t useful either.

Better not to have hysterics from anyone.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Oh, I know exactly how it sounds. I want this vaccine as I want to go back to my home country and see my family. It's people like you and Sanchez who are going to extend the time that I can't.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Good. Now when do they start putting it in arms?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

@bob, just got back from the US 3 days ago. Was an empty flight. Mom and dad are great!

Hi Jimmy! Sorry for the late reply but just did a Costco run with the family. The house just gets smaller and smaller. You know how that goes, eh?

Ask and ye shall receive, my worried man.

https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/do-masks-stop-the-spread-of-covid-19-

But you've known this for a long while. Everybody has.

Even the CDC has admitted just a few days ago that masks have a negligible effect. They came up with the pitiful number of a 1.7% reduction, if memory serves. (Within the margin of error). Negligible.

And if you're getting a bit hysterical about lockdowns, here's a recent and comprehensive study that also shows what everybody has known deep down for a long while. They don't work. Anywhere!

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-84092-1

And just a little advice. The only histrionics I see on this site are from those who get very, very upset at any criticism of the vaccine.

Sound familiar?

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Great to hear, Ricky! I guess all those rumours of quarantined travelers is just that. A rumour!

That would mean that your memory is failing. You may be confusing between very different things, mask use vs mask mandates on one side, and on the other total reduction against reduction of growth. A reference would settle this easily.

And if you're getting a bit hysterical about lockdowns, here's a recent and comprehensive study that also shows what everybody has known deep down for a long while. They don't work. Anywhere!

An study that works assuming that every country has the same need of lockdowns to compare the effects is hardly the consensus of science (or as the same article says "Editor’s Note: Readers are alerted that the conclusions of this article are subject to criticisms that are being considered by the Editors. A further editorial response will follow once all parties have been given an opportunity to respond in full."),

Better designed studies with more controls, statistical power and validation say the opposite.

Hi Jimmy! Sorry for the late reply but just did a Costco run with the family. The house just gets smaller and smaller. You know how that goes, eh?

Be at bit careful living the high-life at Costco. Going outside runs the runs the risk of accidents, probably higher than the .0006 odds mentioned for the vaccine to calm the hysterics.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Be at bit careful living the high-life at Costco. Going outside runs the runs the risk of accidents,

Don't be so hysterical! Get out of that ol' apartment and join us in the outside world! Come on now, u and the wife must be driving each other crazy by now so get outside and get some fresh air in the common area!

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Even the CDC has admitted just a few days ago that masks have a negligible effect. They came up with the pitiful number of a 1.7% reduction, if memory serves.

@bob, it would help if you said exactly what that "1.7% reduction" referred to. The number of people wearing masks, the thickness of the masks, or the reduction in skin rashes.

We all want to believe you, but some of us are grumpy, and when presented with numbers, like to know what they refer to. Otherwise, you're doing a great job. Carry on!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Terribly sorry, albaleo. A 1.7% reduction in infection rates. Again, thats within the margin of error and similar to what the most comprehensive study conducted by Dutch researchers found last summer.

The study found that between March and December 2020, face mask orders reduced infection rates by 1.5 percent over the rolling periods of two months each. The masks were 0.5 percent effective in the first 20 days of the mandates and less than 2 percent effective after 100 days.

If you want to wear a mask, fine. Go ahead. But don't be under the illusion they do any good.

At this point, their only utility is to further contribute to the acute problem of mental illness, particularly in children.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

A source for this? are you still confused between the effect of mask use vs mask mandates? and reduction of total rates vs reduction of growth? I already corrected you once on this on a previous comment.

How come you cannot produce that reference? does it prove you wrong?

Why, don't look further than the CDCs own website, my good man.

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7010e3.htm

But don't dilly-dally. I understand the CDC is working hard to make this info disappear.

I notice you remain silent on the now well documented Dutch study.

Take the loss, Rex. Just take the loss. There is no harm in admitting you have been wrong.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Why, don't look further than the CDCs own website, my good man.

Yes, that means you are confused, are you going to pretend not being able to read your own reference? just look at the title

*Association of State-Issued Mask Mandates and Allowing On-Premises Restaurant Dining with County-Level COVID-19 Case and Death Growth Rates — United States, March 1–December 31, 2020*

So both of the failures in your argument were actually true, you are confused between mask use and mask mandates and total cases and daily growth, I think you can understand that lowering the daily growth has a much larger impact than if the reduction were of the final numbers (but I could be over-estimating what you can get from a scientific paper)

Let me quote you the exact passage, so you can run away saying that it is too much to read again.

Mask mandates were associated with a 0.7 percentage point decrease (p = 0.03) in daily COVID-19 death growth rates 1–20 days after implementation and decreases of 1.0, 1.4, 1.6, and 1.9 percentage points 21–40, 41–60, 61–80, and 81–100 days, respectively, after implementation

Excuses are hugely less effective when everybody (including you) can see you were wrong exactly as I said you were.

You are becoming an expert at proving yourself mistaken when you bring references.
