In January, the first private mission to the space station from the U.S. will bring three businessmen — from the U.S., Canada and Israel — who are paying about $55 million apiece.

I hope and expect that the full travelling cost will go down sharply to around 1 million USD per person over a few decades.

I sure hope Maezawa is receiving or will receive some kind of counseling. He seems to be crying out for attention. Hopefully, he won*t be found like so many others who appeared to be happy in the public sphere and suffering on the inside.

Meanwhile, the rest of us have more important things to think about, like putting bread on the table and caring for sick relatives.

The Japanese philanthropist that is trying to play in the ranks of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. The only problem is the Japanese version is an idiot and the whole world thinks so too.

No need to go to the moon to get your name in the spotlight dude. You could make a name for yourself by donating your money to a worthy cause here on Earth. We also don't need you to share your experience about space, real astronauts from the last century have already done that thank you.

Maezawa selfish idiot, if you want to be remembered you could donate that money to help with the vaccine rollout in your country.

Gee, I hope he brings us back a t-shirt, some cheese mochi and takes a cool selfie from the ISS or the moon. Tee hee. So amazing!!!!

Am happy to pay the fees to transport any and all tycoons into outer space, where they all belong and can do no damage here on earth. Elon Musk being number one, along with the litany of tech billionaires.

Agree with Koiwai. Could be pushing for private industry to step up with the vaccine rollout. Instead he’s focused on cake icing.

He is already living on some different planet, so may as well physically go there as well. It really baffles me how he made so much money as he doesn't seem the brightest of people...

I'd like to know, out of all these billionaires, apart from Bill Gates, who exactly is helping out with the pandemic?

If I were a young billionaire, going to space might appeal to me, too.

If I have the money I will travel also. Good for him

And if it all goes boom on the take off pad.. what then ?

Space flight for the masses has still a long way to go. For those who watch StarTrek and imagine such an easy ride up... hah, you have, a rather rude awakening awaiting you. And I bet, the disclaimers that need signing, will be followed up by spouse/family related waivers and legally bound agreements, taxation issues, etc.

That said, yes, I would be envious of those embarking upon this trip, as it's a Childhood dream.... but dreams are for many, and we should not become fixated upon not achieving those, especially, when basic day to day survival is a goal for so many.

It probably explains why other billionaires or people considered to be innovative thinkers are rarely seen around him. They have more important things to do. This seems like an attempt by Maezawa to buy friends! He is trying to buy his way into the current cool crowd.

Once again, I hope he is seeking some kind of mental counseling.
