JCB International Co (JCBI), the international operations subsidiary of JCB, the only global payment brand based in Japan and Bank-Verlag GmbH (Bank-Verlag), a subsidiary of Bundesverband deutscher Banken e.V. (BdB) in Germany, on Thursday announced the execution of a Master Issuing License Agreement.

Bank-Verlag provides card processing services for German private and commercial banks under Bundesverband deutscher Banken e.V. (BdB) and key managing services to all German banks and European project partners. With the Master Issuing License Agreement in place, Bank-Verlag is now able to offer the banks the ability to issue girocard - JCB co-badged cards.

Since 1981, JCB and JCBI have been expanding JCB card acceptance locations across Europe to increase convenience for JCB cardmembers. Currently, JCB is accepted at 22 million merchants worldwide including a few million merchants in Europe developed through alliances with European partner banks and financial institutions for merchant acquiring.

There should be two reasons to expand JCB brand in the worldwide. One is if the transaction fee is attractive for retailers. Another one is what interests the card users to take the card in the world wide. If the transaction fee is cheaper than other big names like VISA, Master card, the number of the acceptance will definitely increase. On the other hand, 2nd reason is a little bit complex. If you're in Europe, you' ll not be engaged in using JCB card. Only scenario is that european travelers should may use JCB card when visiting Japan. I don't think it's profitable not only for JCB but also for card holders.
