Hmm, I wonder why he of all people would be keen on keeping bars open?

Fuse, here's an idea.

Make your bland beer something more people want to drink at home through this pandemic, rather than it being the exclusive beer to some contracted izakaya. Then perhaps sales would go up.

Besides that, I always see those totally unrealistic prognosis for business outlooks.

where does he see the potential in 2021 for a 17 % business uptick ?

Beer sales were falling for years prior to corona and with less people, less tourists, less events, less hotel and bar and restaurant sales ??? Where ?

Of course he is right, because he is capable of logical thinking. Instead of strictly canceling everything else where people are gathering, like commuting, bigger workplaces, shopping centers, department stores , sports events, religious places and all the like, the concentrated finger pointing bashing almost only goes against those small gastronomic businesses with their mostly outstanding disinfecting, cleaning, temperature measurements, placing customers distanced etc. They have their cases, but the majority of infections happen elsewhere.

Beer executive doesn't want to do anything that would jeopardize sales of beer.

Will wonders never cease.

11 ( +20 / -9 )

Exactly. Stop singling out night life it’s pathetic and prejudiced. Some schools are as bad as some bars for spreading for ex.

-5 ( +14 / -19 )

It's easiest to close the restaurants and bars because they aren't technically necessary, but they are still part of a modern economy circulating capital and giving people jobs so they can support themselves. I think they are just being made a scapegoat to appease the people who have no sense of proportion on a flu-like virus that's now endemic...

Are you going to weld yourself in your apartment next year when it inevitably comes back? Please get a realistic sense of proportion here and learn to deal with it

Can't say I blame him for thinking that way. In addition to his job of maximising shareholder returns, he has thousands of employees to consider as well. Plenty of people on this forum love to paint company bosses as evil Mr Burns types, but that's a gross oversimplification. If you were in a similar position, what would you do?

I agree with him that sweeping approach is the wrong one - Suga et al should be aiming for focused protection of the most vulnerable.

He’s talking rubbish.

@Sven Asai

They have their cases, but the majority of infections happen elsewhere

I agree!

Most of the Restaurants and Izakayas are doing a very good prevention. People sit separate, Tables have distance up to 2m, hand sanitizers and fever check is mandotory, Tables have separaters, staff are wearing masks...

In my opinion, the full packed offices, were people sit very tight together is one of the biggest problem.

And many meetings are hold in a very tight and small meeting room where social distance is not possible.

In my opinion, sending people in home offices to avoid full packed trains and full packed offices will bring the numbers more down than closing the Izakayas or restaurants at 8pm.

The head of Kirin Holdings' beer business on Wednesday questioned imposing across-the-board closings of late-night bars and restaurants around Tokyo, saying some establishments had already implemented stringent safety measures.

Kirin Head,

Just take one for team Japan. You make money from the people. Let’s put their health first so they can drink more of your beer in the future.

6 ( +12 / -6 )

Actually - my Local Kirin City is extremely Covid compliant. They have a good point - In any case most of my faves completely ignore the 8pm curfew. If they close down again - and it goes on longer than a month then many will NEVER return.

I wonder about using QR codes to track customers and Covid? Might be some scheme that works for Japan. Voluntary tracking for entry into participating establishments. The phone companies already have this location data.

Anyway, some bars just lock the doors and everyone inside can just party on.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Maybe they should create those moving bars where everyone peddles while drinking, and use masks with tiny straw holes.

My straw hole masks are a hit with friends.

This executive needs to think out of the box.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

tbh Kirin beer is better than Asahi cat pee

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

What a moron

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

I can reword it as: "Why don't I get enough money?"

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

So, according to Kirin, profits are more important than people.

No more ichiban shibori for me!

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

I only have Kirin if there is nothing else better. Haven't had a Kirin in 10 years.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

For once I agree with nearly every single message on this post .

This Fuse muppet is only really concerned, worrying about not getting his big fat bonus this coming Summer .

Stay home and drink beer.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Kirin, ha, that explains it, now Asahi on the other hand is going down real good.

Number 1 in this country ASAHI Super Dry while this Kirin sticking its neck out with silly statements.

Shut down the schools and universities they been spreading the virus

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

I usually see salarymen reaching for 9% Chu-Hai at the super.

“I do somewhat question taking a sweeping approach, when there are establishments which have taken very strict measures”

Yes! And there are MANY that haven’t !!

♪Its all about the money♪

I usually see salarymen reaching for 9% Chu-Hai at the super.

Wow! A couple of them and they can forget the lousy job and family life for a few hours.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

If the top of kirin cannot understand WHY. He is ......

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

He just doesn't want to see Kirin come second to 'Corona'! (Gracias!)

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The question that needs to be asked and answered is where and how are people catching the virus.

That's what contact tracing is supposed to answer.

What are the answers?

People pay taxes their whole lives and when it's time for the government employees and organizations to do some work, they're AWOL.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Means absolutely nothing when people are still riding to work, crowding into shopping centers, and going to school. Japan will be saying in two months, when it’s seven thousand a day, that they should have imposed strict measures. And then they get all wishy-washy and still fail to do anything about it.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

What does he even mean second lockdown? as if the first SOE became close to an actual lockdown, and neither will this one. Just a whole lot of meetings and urging.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Mitsubishi, rein your idiot in.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I see most of you drinking the cheap stuff then lol
