This is what Japan needs - more junk food!

Always been a huge fan of KK, never liked the MrD, but rather coming down on Japan's decision to bring in more KK is NOT the problem! I love Mexican food coming from the west coast, it's the next best food south of the border, but in general, one of the unhealthiest, but like with everything else, it all depends on portions, when will people understand and take responsibility and accountability into their own hands. You can complain all you want, KK is not the one at fault, it's the person standing in line for 2 hours ready to buy 2 dozen! That's where the problem lies. As the saying goes, you are what you eat. I go to KK probably once a month, not really liking the Japanese version monthly specials, seems like they are trying to take some bad ideas from MrD and hybrid them, BAD MOVE! MrD, I usually once a year. So I don't have to worry about gaining wait or having other health problems associated with eating donuts.

Great, I've been trying to gain weight.

You are what you eat and donuts are certainly delicious but are unhealthy. They provide you with empty calories without much fiber and takes nutrients from your body by leaving you more nutritionally deficient than before you ate them doing damage to a number of systems in the body linking to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity. There are no vitamins, minerals and do not provide you with any nutrients whatsoever. Sadly the artificial flavors and colors is what makes them look and taste so yummy. But they're hard to resist so when I have a sweet tooth I try to eat fruits instead although that doesn't work all the time.

@Carcharodon, it would be great if Trader Joes opens ups here in Japan, but knowing the Japanese, it will become too trendy and will lose all appeal to me.

Oh, I've never heard of Krispy Kreme before.. Good thing for me lol! Maybe someday I'll try one..But anyway, doughnuts are not my favorite sweets.. :P

Disgusting product and a silly name for a store. I can't wait to see the omiyage in the office. Oh, how exciting. Ugh :^|

200 calories? try closer to 300 or 390 for a caramel kreme crunch ( checked out their nutritional info), but focussing on calories is unwise, because there are good calories and bad calories and in this case, its all in the latter. Sugar up to 30m grams per item - thats 8 teaspoons of sugar, they use nasty hyper processed vegetable oils like soy/canola, the high sodium levels, the high total carbohydrate level, the wheat/gluten. basically there is nothing natural, nothing wholesome at all about it. It's not food, its more like a drug. You want to 'enjoy one', go ahead many doctors and medical researchers, would tell you it's worse than one cigarette and I believe them, the problem is most people arent fully aware of the real dangers lurking in such food. And many of the customers of this place aren't just having one, and they aren't eating healthy food options the rest of the time - they are eating cup noodles, and pizza, and cakes, and all kinds of garbage, so yeah one donut to a metabolically damaged person is pushing them closer to the edge.

I cry for Japan, when I read a headlines - the Krispy Kreme is opening 73 stores. now if a store that sells real food like Trader Joes was open 73 stores that would be awesome

It is very interesting to learn Krispy Kreme is dropping tons of sugar over Japanese while Americans are changing their diets to more fruits and veggies. I forsee OB trends on horizon in Japan.

For all of you so-called "health nuts" who are dogging Krispy Kreme ( though you all are probably a bunch of disgusting, sweaty, fat-asses ) one Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut has approx. 200 calories.

200 calories.

If THAT is gonna push you over the edge, then you've got a whole mess of trouble on your hands.

And for those of you dogging KK who are near-skeletal, carrot crunchers that can tread water in a glass, oh my 'effing GOD! Get a life, will you? Get off your high-horses and stop preaching!

I rarely eat doughnuts, but KK rocks. After having to eat the sand biscuits that Mr. Donut has the nerve to label as "doughnuts" for the last 13 years, KK is heaven.

I know of two Krispy Kremes in Tokyo

There's one in the basement of Marui near Yurakucho station- it always seems pretty busy.

Sure pray on the healthy eating Japanese with this Junk,. enough with the SUGAR, FAT, and SALT crap. They are Jus Junk dealers, you are what you eat. This stuff causes all sort of diseases....

Asagao: "Disgusting junk food. Diabetes is on the rise."

Wow, I actually agree with you.

Never tried a Krisy Kreme, and based on the descriptions of them, never will. Not much into sweets as it is, but a Krispy Kreme is beyond disgusting and unnecessary, of that I have no doubt. Anyway, Krispy Kreme will go the way of Starbucks, methinks -- they'll open a record number of shops which will boom for a short time, then they'll go into the red and half will close.

Another bankrupted scheme from a bankrupt company or did they get out of chapter 7 or 11? I dought the japanese like the over swee product and if they do.... what will tell will the rush hour trains be like when 1 japanese is the size of two as in the USA.

Az, same thing happened in canada. I think for a month there were insane lines. A year later, went out of business. No thanks for me

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yuck! Who wants to eat those clouds of calories! Seriously! One of those original donuts can be finished in one bite with no substantial 'bite' to it and it costs you 300-400 calories (or is it more?) I dont know what the hype is about these stupid Krispy Kremes, I much prefer Dunkin Donuts or no donuts at all.

When the first Krispy Kreme opened here at Australia everybody was going mad about it and the amount of time people were willing to stand in line for one of them was just sad, but like everybody else, out of curiosity I tried the 12 pack (not all at once lol) and ive never been back, never will be. The only thing I thought was wtf?

Krispy Kremes are pure disgusting. Well at least this move will create jobs and stimulate the economy.

Back on topic please.

It is insane right? Japanese people are getting fatter, but are still very slightly built, so it probably means they are never going to look fat. I on the other hand, cycle 15 kms a day, go jogging 3 times a week, eat much healthier than many of the japanese i have met, and look huge next to most J-girls. Its just not fair.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yes this just means that there'll be be more fat and overweight people around... They are tasty though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Does anybody do marketing research in Japan before launching such a scheme? I know of two Krispy Kremes in Tokyo, Shinjuku (across the street from the station) and Tachikawa (actually inside the station shopping mall.) Shinjuku does a fair amount of business but after the first month or so Tachikawa has been empty.

oh and Mister donuts sucks! :P

0 ( +1 / -1 )

why do people always blame the food for obesity? Its not the food's fault, its the people. Nobody is telling you that you have to go eat junk food. And eating one donut is not going to make you fat. Krispy Kreme donuts are awesome deliciousness and i hope they come to shizuoka.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

This is good news! I always thought that Japanese bodies were too svelte. As the population gets more obese, I'm sure we'll see a decrease in ijime towards fat kids! Fight the good fight, Krispy Kreme!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I hope there's one in my prefecture, they're the only place to get jam-filled dougnuts.. yum.

Oh, and as for the naysayers, there's nothing wrong with the occassional doughnut. All things in moderation.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

I definitely have noticed a rise in the number of "metabo" here in Tokyo since i first came a few years back. Japanese men are starting to look like Americans from 20 years ago. Give it another 20 years and Japan will be a country of overweight, obese middle age salarymen. No offense intended.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Never had one, never will.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Don't be in a hurry to go to the new stores. When the other stores opened (like in Tachikawa) , the lines were INSANE! Imagine waiting for hours just to get a doughnut.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why not give a link, telling us where the stores are! I want to know....

If you like donuts or other sweets, Just add organic apple cider & organic coconut oil to your diet.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Ditto what Asagao says. I hope there will be more doctors trained in treating diabetes to coincide. Just as with smokers and the way most of them ravage their bodies for the sake of self-pleasure, those who produce the products can run off pocketing the money while society has to pick up the tab for those who can't learn how to control themselves.

bring on obesity!

Well, I am so happy now when I go back to Mexico not only can I eat lots of crazy hot food that burns off my tongue with super sweet American style Krypy Kreme donuts! Ah yes, the breakfast of champions! Diabetes? Sure it is on the rise but we all must die sooner or later so enjoy your donuts!
