This is why the government need to hurry up and separate the grid from the dominant electricity suppliers. I would imagine the more solar plants they connect the more stable the supply will be as localised fluctuations will become a smaller fraction of the total renewable supply.

Japanese systems, logic, and common sense ( or lack of ) at work here.

Japan can't have a "national grid" because of incompatible frequencies between east and west Japan and inadequate conversion capacity that will never change because it walls off any competition between them.

The industry is a living example of modern feudalism.

So is there a plan in the works to unify the AC power standard throughout all of Japan? Pick one frequency or the other, then have everybody switch over? It's my understanding that most electrical devices are already dual frequency - either automatically or via a switch. There would just need to be a training period for consumers similar to when TVs went from analog to digital.

Zichi,

The solar panels can be linked with gas fired turbines which can respond to any power imbalances but the truth is, Kyushu Electric wants to restart its nuclear reactors and have been given permission by the NRA to restart two of them but need local approval.

Why should Kyushu Electric build gas turbine plants to accomodate people who want KE to buy their electricity - the solar suppliers should build those plants.

zichi, they will never make more electricity than nuclear. that is found by studies, solar energy is either too weak to make massive amount of electricity or either too much space. the gas turbines are worst than nuclear, it pollutes the invironment and u can plant on the soil. whereas nuclear can hit up to 2,000GW. solar will only feed individual homes. the gas turbines ur talking about are alot weaker as we speak. But even solar in every house will help but wont replace nuclear.

ya ur right that it will help for the meantime. but lets not abandon the powerfull nuclear plants that can light industries especially that need a high amount of electricity. safety will also develop new technologies and new area for japan to be advanced in one area atleast.

or quit trying to sustain these industries in a resource poor location like Japan and do something sustainable besides mega-scale heavy industry. That strategy is very last century and does nothing to help Japan more forward to build on its craftsman and tourism strengths.

no scrote, the more solar plants they add the bigger the blackout will be on rainy days or cloudy days. we have been talking about this, no nuclear or hydropower plant or fossil fuels or gas plant no electricity. things like wind ecology or solars are only for small projects like a small house or a farm. not for huge cities that hit over a million
