Lotteria to give refunds if customers do not like new hamburger

Hamburger chain Lotteria began its latest campaign on Thursday with the release of its new Zetsumyo Burger. From Thursday until the end of July, customers who are not satisfied with the burger and have eaten less than half of it can have a new burger free of charge.

If they are still not satisfied, they are entitled to a full refund if they fill out a brief questionnaire. The refund is limited to one per person throughout the campaign period, and the company estimates there will be a return rate of somewhere between 1 and 5%.

The burger went on sale at about 500 Lotteria outlets nationwide on Thursday, and costs 360 yen (660 yen with medium fries and regular beverage.) The burger features a meat patty 12 millimeters thick and contains specially selected lettuce, tomato and onions, finished with dijon mustard and a wasabi sauce.

The burger is the second item in the Zeppin Series (Superb Series) following the release of their Zeppin Cheeseburger in 2007. Lotteria president Shingo Shinozaki said: “This money-back campaign is a promise to our customers assuring them of a quality burger. I’m sure they’ll like it.”

It goes well with 2009 Chateau au Sodapoppe, which is fruity and unpretentious.

I'm sure the homeless, unemployed etc, will enjoy them for free too. Well, they would in most countries. I guess most Japanese are just too honest to take advantage of this offer which was the first thing that came to my mind.

The clerk at Lotteria hypnotized me using a Jedi knight mind control trick last time I was there. She waved her hand slowly over the Zeppinburger on the menu and said "choose from the menu" repeatedly in a monotonous hypnotic voice. (3 or 4 times while pointing at the Zeppinnburger).

It was weird. I couldn't think what I went in there for and ended up ordering one.

It was small and tasteless and represented extremely poor value, so I am glad that Lotteria is offering this. I shall take them up on the offer next time they try their Jedi mind control trickery on me.

According to this, you can eat one entire Zetsumyo Burger in two halves for free.

Be sure to say "wasabi sauce nuki" or they'll put wasabu sauce on your burger!

contains specially selected lettuce, tomato and onions,

Oh, yeah baby! Specially selected from the cheapest Chinese pesticide tainted vegetables. "Oishii!" And, Osakadaz is right! Their food is crap!

Their vanilla crepe is pretty tasty.

Be sure to say "wasabi sauce nuki" or they'll put wasabi sauce on your burger! Can you believe that?

It is a very photogenice burger because it looks far worse in the flesh.

Quality does not equal good taste!

Lotteria--fitting name, since you're taking your chances on their food and most likely it's money down the drain.

I wonder if the questionnaire is in English as well.

they said MEAT and not BEEF. Cleaver Marketing

Lotteria... They should have this policy for all their products.

Aren't food establishments supposed to give refunds anyway if a customer takes food back and demands a refund?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I hear the 'questionnaire' is 7 pages. Then followed by a panel interview for 30 minutes or so... They say the polygraph part is the easiest, though. Nah, just kidding but this is spectacularly horrible food. Barf fuel and then some.

They ought to give you a magnifying glass so that you can see the microscopic burgers that they and MOS Burger sell.

really, can this lotteria really compete with mcdonald's and burgerking? is there a single lotteria in the us? at least they should try. or will they?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well I bet you the burger you receive doesn`t look the same as the one in the picture. Meat=60%pork and 40%beef.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it must taste like rubber, plastic and chemicals. The last time I ate at McDs that is what I felt, so I cannot expect anything better from Lotteria

Should this not be in the "new products" section, rather than being business news?

ALL fast food chains are crap, American or Japanese. This Lotteria Mob may market itself as the "premium" or "gourmet" upper end of the fast food chains...but it's still crap!

Sarge, wasabi goes well with beef. Next time you grill a steak, try some wasabi on its own, or mixed with soy sauce for dipping.

contains specially selected lettuce

specially selected from and sliced in China and then shipped to Japan.

mmm Let me think. Lotteria Burger which goes down really well and tastes good or McD Burger or as it is known in Australia as Ground Up Dog Food ... Lotteria wins hands down but I would like to see more HUNGRY JACKS aka Burger King please!

When they say "specially selected" and don't give any more details you know they're full of crap. Specially selected by who? Shouldn't all food be "specially" selected? Otherwise what are we eating?

The Zeppin cheeseburger is great. small, but great. I can eat 6 of them. Want one now, Homer wants one NOW!!!1

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't need a refund. I'll try out once and if I don't like it, then it was first and last time...

"customers who are not satisfied with the burger and have eaten less than half of it can have a new burger free of charge."

So what are they going to do with the other half of the burger ? Gads in this day and age you'd think that blatant and unnecessary food waste would have been at the top of their list of concerns during their strategy meetings !

mcdonalds has the most franchise locations in japan. mos burger is number 2. lotteria is a distant 3rd. they're jus'tryin' to leap-frog mos burger to get into the #2 spot. burger king is nowhere near even bein'in the picture. their market share is so pathetic, they should be called "burger pauper" ... ha ha ha.

I gotta agree with the comment about wasabi on burgers! I love the stuff and it's great on a fat juicy burger!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Doesn't make sense to offer another burger if it wasn't good in the first place. But if people want a burger and a half(or just less than a half) for the price of one then I guess that's ok. Or eat two halves and get them for free.

onewrldoneppl - who cares if they have a branch in the US - what does this article have to do with the US in any way?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lotteria sucks, there is nothing on their menu they wouldn't have to give me a refund for.

"Sarge, wasabi goes well with beef."

It does not. Wasabi goes well with tuna. Grilled onions goes well with beef.

Wait a dang minute... horseradish goes well with roast beef... horseradish is like wasabi... by golly I'll give it a try!

usaexpat - You haven't tried Lotteria's vanilla crepe, have you?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge: No I stick to Mos Burger or McDs if I'm doing chains. The best burger in Nagasaki is still the Log Kit stand in front of Daiei. MMMMM sasebo burger make mine a large.

Some of you have too much time.

contains specially mis-labelled lettuce

I can' wait to go get my refunds from Lotteria. Their burgers are way too small and nothing out of this Earth, so give me my yen back now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, I meant I can't, can not wait to get a refund.

Lotteria used to have an excellent straight burger a few years ago. Good size, lots of veggies, quality bun. The downside, the meat patty was always luke-warm, never hot ! Now ? The buns are hard as rocks, they've downsized the whole burger, and the zeppin was nothing more than meat and cheese... nothing else !
