Hopefully tv shows and movie won’t do this, as we need them to represent all the different races, genders and orientations we see in everyday life.

DEI has been destroying businesses. Thankfully, it's going the way of the dodo!
Mr Kipling
Is common sense coming back into fashion? Just choose the best available regardless of colour, "gender" or orientation.

Finally, Macca's/Mickey D's gets it - people just want a damn burger, not a lesson on nonsensical diversity quotas. Maybe they realized that pandering to the woke mob doesn't sell freedom fries.
Next step: ditch the rainbow packaging and focus on what actually matters - like making the McFlurry machine actually work for once.

Common sense prevailing once again. Fantastic news!

there is nothing more fair and equitable than hiring the best person you find for any position.

Here is something to think about.
If the show is good and if the viewers are interested and like it, then it survives.
Now if the show doesn't get people interested in it, if not enough people are watching it then it loses money and it is clearly not what people want.
So "diversity" has nothing to do with it.
We know this by the simple fact in the late 70s to mid 90s shows like the Cosby show, The Jeffersons, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, etc...were all major hits lasting several years, not because of "diversity" but because they were well written and despite being comedies they tackled many serious issues and people didn't get bent out of shape or triggered.
The problem today is it is diversity for diversity sake and entertainment takes a backseat, instead of talking serious issues in a less agressive way, they try hitting people over the head with a sledgehammer.
The movie industry is the same.

I guess DEI worked. America is about to be run by a person of colour (the colour being orange), and a migrant (from South Africa).

Well done McDonald's. But make no mistake, it's all about money. They've seen the shift in public sentiment and have adjusted accordingly.

Company that makes trash food, makes trash decision.
Who'd have guessed.

Nice! I put facts you have nothing to counter facts so you call people names.
That is the sign of someone that has lost the argument before it starts.

Go woke, go broke. MacD seems to have woken up, others (Jaguar comes to mind) are doubling down on committing corporate suicide.

But that would depend on where you live, the specific community, and your lifestyle. Stats show about 7% are LGBTQ and 1% are transgender in the US as an example. Some would never see them in everyday life. To a perhaps lesser extent, this would also apply to race. As for gender, most films even before 'woke' usually had both genders represented anyway but today if a film like Stand by Me, a boys coming of age film, were being filmed today, half the cast would have to be women just to appease DEI standards. And today's strong female characters like Snow White can't be rescued by a man, can't want to be in a relationship with a man, and can't even be shown doing housework. Is that accurate representation?

The free-thinkers with their originality, eh?

Another company has finally realized that "go woke, go broke" is a real thing.

They realize paying someone $400,000 USD/year to run a DEI program is getting old, and that money is better in the CEO/Shareholders banks.
Quo Primum
No, we don't. We don't need to see every group of people out there being "represented" in every movie or TV show we see. Not even in most movies or TV shows we see.
This DEI nonsense reached hysterically silly stage when the film "The Promised Land" was criticized for its "lack of diversity."
The film was set in 18th-century Denmark, for heaven's sake.
Surely, pretty much everybody in Denmark at that time was white. If there were any non-white people at all, they could probably have been counted on one hand. Literally.

Hmmmm....I guess you have to have Elon Musk or Vivek Ramaswamy on your board to have real permanent DEI policies...
Just look at how they flipped Trump - from DEI hater to born-again pro-immigrant...
MAGA is defeated by MIGA - Make Immigrants Great Again...
Who would have thunk Trump would be so pro-DEI? Well, for starters, Steve Bannon and Laura Loomer - who think he has betrayed the MAGA cause - along with a lot of other MAGA-fans now having buyers regret...
MAGA-world - self-imploding in its own civil war...
Quo Primum
That would necessitate the accentuation and prioritization of skin color ahead of everything else about people.
And when we accentuate and prioritize skin color ahead of everything else about people, it's called racism.
Hence, the "DEI" crowd claims to be fighting racism -- but is actually engaging in it.

Which businesses has it destroyed?
Examples?

Confusion very much? Illegal immigration is a different issue from DEI. Trump is consistent... he was and is against uncontrolled mass migration via open borders, but not against legal immigration via work visas. Maybe obsession is clouding perception a bit for some?

Based on fake media narratives, but funny nevertheless. Kudos!
ClippetyClop
The 'uncontrolled' and 'open borders' bit here show how confused you are. They are bad faith arguments since they are clearly false. It's no wonder your nation is such a mess with such dishonesty.
I suppose you bought his rubbish about immigrants gobbling up all of the cats and dogs too? Did it help you cope?
Zaphod
ClippetyClop
What is false about them? Are you claiming that open land borders and controlled immigration are the same thing??
You do not know what "my nation" is.

“The McDonald's Hispanic Owner-Operators Association said it had no comment on the policy change. A message seeking comment was left with the National Black McDonald's Operators Association”
A summary of the problem.
ClippetyClop
Both. Immigration has never been 'uncontrolled' and the borders have never been 'open'. It's just something that MAGA claim on the other team's innings to help them cope with their innings being exactley the same.
Eh? Read again. I'm not responsible for you picking up another stick by the wrong end again.
You've proven that you don't either since you claim that borders are 'open' and 'uncontrolled'.
