Could their decline in sales have something to do with the company warning its employees on their website not to eat McDonald's food because it's unhealthy.?

I think their decline is in part due to the fact that there is still no sweet & sour sauce in Japan.

They're going to replace all the workers with robots.

McDonalds is Skynet.

Here's a suggestion for Mac, put out a healthy menu, at the same low prices, get rid of Donaldo too!

The first thing they should do is, start selling food instead of that chemical laden rubbish they have been passing off as food! The reason McDonald's has been get less and less popular is not because people's tastes are changing. It is because more and more people are becoming aware of what McDonald's contains. It's not food!

If they want to improve their hamburgers they can start by adding more lettuce, tomatoes and the key ingredient BEETROOT!

The global giant, which has languished amid rising concerns about obesity and food quality, will sell off more company-owned restaurants to franchisees, restructure its international operations and cut costs.

Downsizing, restructuring and cutting costs --- the usual management BS to stall and gain time, because they clearly do not have a true "turnaround" plan. This is just trying to help short-term profits to keep Wall Street. happy, not anything beyond that. And one chicken sandwich with limited antibiotics is just a PR stunt.

He said he would prod employees throughout the system to push “little more quickly and a little more accurately” to improve the dining experience. “We all need to step up our game a bit,” he said.

Means basically more work for the still dismal wages.

Low prices and healthy just don't go together, as with food you get what you pay for.

Um, send your workers over to Japan to learn how to give great service. Always a smile. Always cute, clean and courteous.

A plan that looks great from head office but willl do nothing to turn their fortunes around. Other places do better burgers and other places do better healthy options. Mac got too big and will shrink back to something more sensible.

But McD Japan is in the red too, so how would that make a difference? I try to avoid industrial food like that anyway, so personally I won´t miss them if they disappear.

McDonald's in the real estate business. Most restaurants are in high-traffic areas, so even if there are the anomalous slow days, people will still come to the store just because it is more convenient. The menu is still important, but they still have the location angle to fall-back on.

Everything but actually improving their food.

Unbelievable.

Yes, OK, please turn around, go, and don't come back.

with sales falling 2.4% in 2014 to $27.4 billion

Oh boo hoo. Mac only have themselves to blame, greed greed and more greed. You make all that money and yet you employ a chinese company to make inferior products like nuggets and fries I think too (not sure there). You get what you pay for. Pay the extra and find some decent suppliers you can trust (in the US or Japan) make sure everyone knows it and the sales will take care of themselves.

The franchisees were disappointed in the plan because it calls for them to spend more money on equipment to achieve the unclear food goal. The company wasn't going to be spending any money, just issuing edicts to the franchise holders from the mountaintop.

Their decline is in part that their products "SUCK!" People who are looking for a cheap meal or snack are best to go somewhere else. There are lots of places where you can get a cheap and healthy meal in Japan. And McDonald's, good luck with that turnaround plan, I think you're going to need it!

It will be interesting to see which changes "stick" and which one fall by the roadside. In the U.S. they just started selling a 1/3 pound sirloin burger in three versions. I also notice that now they are promoting their beef as "100% North American-sourced" (I assume that the source will be different in other continents). Not sure what it means to be "North American-sourced", but it must mean something different than "North American-grown" or they would have said as much.

When they start selling 'food' then people will return....
