Mitsubishi Motors Corp has revealed the design of the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model of the all-new Outlander crossover SUV. The all-new Outlander PHEV model will make its global debut on Oct 28, with the start of sales scheduled in Japan in mid-December.
The online world premiere will be streamed on the company's global website on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. JST. https://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/en/digitalreveal
Based on the bold expressions of functionality with which Mitsubishi has designed its SUVs over the years, the company developed the all-new Outlander under its new design concept -- Bold Stride -- which expresses a bold, fixating presence with a solid stance and dependability for drivers to take a new step forward.
On the front, Mitsubishi has evolved the Dynamic Shield, which projects both power and reassurance, for a new generation to create a front-end design with a sense of presence. The side view expresses bold proportions with thick horizontal accents extending from the front to the rear end, achieving a dignified styling comprised of rich surface carved with sharply defined character lines. Additionally, the large-diameter 20-inch wheels along with the muscular front and rear fender flares that house them conjure an image of powerful and dependable road performance.
The rear side of the all-new Outlander features tailgate design comprised of a hexagon motif with the look of a chiseled block, and the horizontally themed taillights that extend to both edges create a rear styling that accentuates wideness and stability. Body color can be selected from a total of 10 colors including the vivid, crystalline, high brightness Diamond Color series -- Red Diamond, White Diamond, and the new Black Diamond.
To project a high-quality feel, Mitsubishi has evolved the interior also. The horizontally-sculpted instrument panel makes it easy to understand the position of the car while driving, and expresses robustness and a feeling of spaciousness. The center console is designed to project a broad high-class presence.
For the door panel, door trim is laid out over a wide area and covered with a quality soft padding that feels good to touch. Much of the padding has been stitched to achieve quality texture. The monitors and gauges are designed to be reassuringly easy to see, while the selectors, dials and switches are designed to provide a confident grip and operation, resulting in a quality feel that appeals to the senses.
As the first vehicle for MMC, the gasoline model of the all-new Outlander (1) has been named a Wards 10 Best Interiors Winner for 2021 by WardsAuto in the United States. Without any price cap, the Wards 10 Best Interiors (2) recognizes outstanding achievement in aesthetics, comfort, ergonomics, materials usage, fit-and-finish and user-friendliness of displays and controls.
-
Except for some parts such as controls, design and equipped features are basically the same as the PHEV model.
- Winners are selected from among all-new or significantly improved interiors across all segments that are newly available in the U.S.

Hybrids are getting banned along with ICE vehicles by 2030 here in the UK. I want to see Japanese EV vehicles on sale, not hybrids. The Koreans are way ahead already with many EV offerings.

Fugly.
Citroën can pull off design like that with Gallic panache.
MMC, however...

What an ugly car!!
Scorpion
Car? That is called a Crossover SUV. If you read the article you would know this.

It's a dying brand.
Desert Tortoise
Good grief those are ugly looking. It doesn't cost any more to make a nice looking car so what gives?

Fancy name for an old fashioned station wagon, or an "estate" for the Europeans here. It's a car. About as off road as any of these will get is if someone jumps a curb at the shopping center and drops a tire into a planter. An SUV is something like Ford Bronco or almost any Land Rover or Jeep (except the Compass).
Seawolf
Ugly front, yes. But I guess it looks nice in the dark with all those different lights shining bright! And there is nothing ”All-New" if it is still the same hybrid motor/engine combination!

Article? It’s an advert.

Go back to horse buggies then.

Ya notice there’s no mention of the safety features? At least I didn’t see any. I wanna know about airbags and reinforced doors before anything else. By the way, my fugly 1999 HRV is running fine for 8 years now and it only cost me 350000 yen from an auction seller. Unless you’ve got money to burn I see no value in buying a brand new car.

Looks like some influence from the Lexus grill, one of the biggest and ugliest in the automobile world.

This is a corporate press release, run as-is. That's okay, but why didn't Mitsubishi devote a single sentence to engine technology, particularly as relates to power, fuel economy and environmental considerations? I would think potential buyers care at least as much about this as they do its interior.

@Scorpion don't be pedantic

Japanese makers are failing to cope with the accelerating pace of EV development to the extent that they're lobbying the US government to slow down the rollout of battery-electric vehicles:

I know this is a pre-announcement press release, but c'mon, its a plug-in hybrid! No info about electric-only range or the drivetrain? No-one will choose this car for the all-new accents in the plastic trim.
paddletime
all the new vehicles are starting to look the same, lame and way way over priced

Will avoid two brands forever-Nissan and Mitsubishi…

Have you got the 1.8 hybrid or the 1.2 turbo?
Also, is the THS-II system as seamless as Toyota claims it to be?
Just wondering.

To all haters I say
I WILL BUY A FULLY LOADED 2024 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER PHEV ANYWAY!
