So we just ignore the sanctions then because it is economically inconvenient.

The sanctions are not economically inconvenient, they are joke. Europe is paying Russia more than one billion euros a day in Rubles if course for it's gas. Grain, timber and fertilizer, Russia's other main exports are not sanctioned. The main effect of the so-called sanctions is to push up the price of gas and oil making Russian richer and Europe poorer.

Of course this means Japan will recognize this and stop declaring it is cooperating fully with the sanctions against Russia, right?

@Nosui

Japan is rich enough to source LPG from different countries …

So true. But no politician wants to cross Mitsui & Co and Mitsubishi Corp. and the three large Japanese shippers involved, NYK Line, Mitsui OSK Lines, and Kawasaki Kisen. All these companies have recorded extraordinary losses this year related to this venture.

If Japan cancels the contract, China will take over the interests of this project. Japan's huge investment will be wasted, and China will reap huge profits. This must be avoided.

Uncle Putin holding Japan by the balls. Ouch!!

well its confirmed yet so better wait final signature of contract and approval from russian side.if all will go through there will be one little victory for japanese natural sources poor and hungry economy.

if common sense will prevail i expect to scrap antirussian sanctions as next step and restart normal business relationship with Russia as before.

but it may happen even opposite if there will be fax received from white house, than Fumio and co will start work hard on destroying of own economy as EU "politicians" starting do right now in Europe...

Good! Japan needs the LNG until we get the Nuclear plants on line.

Japan will need LNG and after restarting the Nuclear plants.

As for the Nuclear plants: they are not free as Japan doesn't have Uranium to produce fuel for them, Japan probably buys nuclear fuel from US, and US currently buys Uranium from Russia, so Japan will pay double price to run Nuclear plants as well.

So glad I live in a country that doesn’t provoke proxy wars then inflate its citizens into third world status.

The hard and inconvenient truth is that money from these companies will prolong the invasion of Ukraine.

Japan is rich enough to source LPG from different countries and Russia only makes up about 10% of supply. Not to be too dramatic, but I certainly would have been willing to pay more to have blood-free energy.

Russia is by the doorsteps. Logistics wise, it is cheaper to get supply from Russia. Japan should not play hard and cut all ties with Russia. EU is an example.

Well, time to add two new companies to the boycott list. I know, I know, my investments are only a blip. I don't care. I don't reward companies that do things I don't agree with. Period.

Thanks for the tip.

Big surprise, Japan has no other option, to avoid a disaster it will have to do dogeza to Putin and whoever is put in charge of the project.

What.

Else.

Did.

We.

Expect?

The Ukraine situation is of course highly regretful, and we have registered our concerns with the appropriate embassy.

How simple can I make this..... Invest Somewhere Else.

This seem hypocritical. It may be pragmatic, but Japan could just spend more money on renewable energy instead.

They'll bow to person who sign decree

Typo alert!!! I think you meant to type Germany.

Uncle Putin holding Germany by the balls Ouch!

Seems, Mitsui and Mitsubishi are already thinking about businesses in post-Putin Russia.

Uncle Putin holding Japan by the balls. Ouch!!

No, Japan has mercy to urge Putin to write a resignation letter and find an asylum place. Or something worse could happen.
