Sales of new automobiles in Japan, excluding minivehicles with engine displacements of up to 660 cc, fell 13.1% from a year earlier to 233,922 units in October, an industry group said Tuesday.
Passenger car sales dropped 13.4% to 202,572 units, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.
Sales of cars with engine displacements of over 2,000 cc declined 21.5% to 87,675 units, and sales of smaller cars fell 6.1 pct to 114,897 units. Truck sales fell 11.4% to 30,261 units, while bus sales rose 6.8% to 1,089 units.
Separately, the Japan Mini Vehicles Association said that new minivehicle sales in October increased 6.2% year on year to 145,444 units, up for the first time in three months.

Domestic car sales in Japan have declined 13 consecutive years.
While Japan may take pride in becoming the world's biggest producer of automobiles, the people of Japan can not afford to buy the cars they produce.
This is a case study of both capitalism gone wrong in Japan and the impotence of Japanese politics....neither serve the people of Japan.
