He’s a fool to take on this role.

Remember Michael Woodford?

The chief-executive-to-be at money-losing Japanese automaker Nissan is determined to speed up decision-making to come up with models that say Nissan — and really sell.

Speed up decision making in a Japanese corporation. Oxymoron does not even begin to define the foolishness of the idea.

He is just next in line to be canon fodder for the failures of the company.

He will be a " chief-executive " until things improves then Nissan will find an Excuse to "DeChief" Him, LOL

If he's successful as a Mexican COO he will be tripped up by envy like the Lebanese. It's just how corporate culture of Japan's most traditional corporations works. BTW the design of the new models looks absolutely appalling.

Nissan... Here's what I want to know:

Where's my Datsun?!

Let's see what happens, but no doubt Nissan will be expanding its production base in the US to avoid tariffs, so they have an advantage over many makers.

Will be interesting to see how Espinosa will fare as CEO. His predecessor Uchida was absolutely hopeless and only managed to bring Nissan to the brink.

good luck fresh man.

lets see results one year - two later...

Cor, those cars look horrible.

Honda, meanwhile, has been copying Audi, and their designs have improved immensely.

How much of the Nissan X-trail is Mitsubishi made from their Outlander. That is why Nissan is losing it’s customers.

my words.

Make a limited reboot of the Skyline GTR 32~34 series, with a US street legal version.

They would easily sell for $100,000 each.

Revive the Terrano series for the NA and AUS market.

US auto tariffs just might help Nissan avoid bankruptcy, as they'll be able to sell lots of their inferior gasoline cars as a result that otherwise would not have been the case.

Auto production, starting with design and culminating in product tests, takes several years. Bringing a product to market in 30 months would be relatively quick for the industry.

Well the Chinese are doing it in just 24 months or less and are really forging ahead now. Not only Nissan, but the auto industry in japan in general is really going to have to step up its game, or it's over.

Quote: "Nissan recently appointed Espinosa to take its helm, effective April 1, replacing Makoto Uchida."

That must be a joke, surely.

But joking and Nissan's cultural, structural and personnel problems aside, I have driven several of their models (also various Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda and Mitsubishi), and Nissan have not given me any particular grief.

Wishing the new guy luck, even if he does drive a Fairlady Z!

The next thing we know, Espinosa will be abused by the prosecutors, held in a cell for no reason, and subjected to endless interrogations.

How much of the Nissan X-trail is Mitsubishi made from their Outlander. That is why Nissan is losing it’s customers.

Both the X-Trail and Outlander share the same platform due to the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Both vehicles use the PR25DD 2.5L inline 4 engine but he CVT transmission is made by Nissan. In Hybrid models they go different ways as Nissan uses their E-Power and Mitsubishi uses their PHEV system. Some interior components, electronics, suspension and AWD hardware are shared.

While both vehicles are related as they share some components due to the alliance, the X-trail is not a rebranded Outlander. And even if it were, that wouldn't be a reason for low sales volume.

ok, so the new ceo can talk.

but can he design a strategy and execute it in the little time Nissan has left ?

i would not expect him to give up confidential plans in such a public speech but a bit more then “ we must all work together” was fair to expect.

first he needs to cut overcapacity, cut non performing models and staff.

then the new line up must be spot on. There is only one chance.

I don’t see it happen in a very low global care sale environment.

One positive thing already on the way is reducing the number of suits who hang around the executive floor at their Yokohama HQ, with their endless meetings and lack of decisions.

Nissan's are good value cars. Our 2004 X-Trail is still going and approaching 300 000 kms. But Nissan needs to think what customers like best, because the six speed automatic gearbox that was put in the diesel version of my car should have been put in the petrol also. But it hasn't been, instead in more modern cars the wretched CVT is being fitted everywhere, and they are reported as being increasingly unpopular for good reasons.

This reminds me of when a good friend of mine married a Japanese woman. It was her second marriage and both men were not Japanese. No congratulations from her family just - "Another foreigner?" Hope he has a contingency plan for when things really go sideways. The blame for anything that goes wrong will be placed squarely at his feet regardless of whatever.
