New Nissan GT-R NISMO unveiled in Japan

Nissan Motor Corp on Wednesday unveiled the newest iteration of the Nissan GT-R NISMO, the company’s flagship GT-R representing continuous evolution toward ultimate driving pleasure. The Nissan GT-R NISMO, along with a special edition version, are planned to launch in Japan in October.

Both models will be offered in the new, NISMO-exclusive NISMO Stealth Gray body color, which was inspired by track tarmacs GT-Rs have set records and competed on.

The special edition features a NISMO-exclusive clear-coated carbon fiber hood. Opting out of a painted hood not only exposes the intricate carbon fiber weave, it also sheds 100 grams from this already svelte GT-R. The edition-exclusive 20-inch Rays aluminum forged wheels sport a red accent that matches existing accents around the body.

For the first time, the new Nissan logo unveiled on the Nissan Ariya adorns the rear trunk lid and wheel center caps.

Continuing from the current Nissan GT-R NISMO, the large Brembo calipers and carbon ceramic rotors are the biggest ever fitted to a Japanese performance car, at 410 mm in the front and 390 mm at the rear.

The GT-R NISMO remains Nissan’s ultimate performance car, offering race-proven technology and an exhilarating driving experience. The GT-R NISMO’s VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 with GT3 racecar-supplied turbochargers remains the heart of the GT-R’s drivetrain, rated at 441 kW (600ps).

The built-to-order GT-R NISMO special edition utilizes new high-precision, weight-balanced parts including the piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, flywheel, crank pulley and valve springs dialed in with tighter tolerances, delivering snappier revs and quicker turbo spooling.

Each engine is handcrafted by its own takumi technician. The takumi certification plate on the engine is also in an exclusive color.

“The GT-R NISMO has always been an ongoing pursuit of ultimate driving pleasure,” said Hiroshi Tamura, chief product specialist of the GT-R. “We take a holistic approach, seeking precision performance through a meticulous balance of engine components and shaving weight, and incrementally evolving the GT-R’s appearance to deliver the ultimate balance of power, performance and excitement to our customers.”

In collaboration with McDonald’s in Japan, a miniature toy car Nissan GT-R NISMO will be available in the “Tomica Happy Set”, a popular McDonald's meal set for children. To promote this, today Nissan and McDonald's held a joint event at Nissan’s headquarters in Yokohama.

The Happy Set will be on sale for a limited time in Japan, starting on April 30.

Top speed and 0-100kms times?

What a dearth of facts in this review

In a car at that level both are fairly irrelevant and will be, as Rolls Royce used to say about their engines' power output, adequate. It would be nice to know the price though.

NISMO version way too expensive. Top end non-NISMO version almost as good and half the price. I still love the GTR looks - I owned one once upon a time - but agree it is getting dated now.

An absolute beast!

a fair matchup, and one the Nismo would win....

Porsche 911 GT2 RS...6:47.3s

3rd fastest lap time on the Nürburgring circuit in 2021 with a very close time for 2020.

I can't even find a comparable time for the GT-R.

One that the Nismo would win? I doubt it.

IMO, someone's been watching too many "Fast and the Furious" movies.

Note: "Tweaked" wasn't right. I should have said "street legal".

Prefer the R 35. Godzilla indeed. with a hint of Transformer. I owned number 99 off the line.

Ha, ha, ha...

Dated, yes. IMO, the R-32 was the best looking of them all.

R32, R33, R34, R35 DNA alive and well.

Pretty good ad for McD’s though. ;8)

Absolutely! The most elegant and understated of the GTRs. It was also a purely mechanical, analog car. No electronic differentials, electronic traction control or other such nonsense, it used three Torsens in the driveline. The whole driveline was brutally over built. About the only thing you maybe wanted to add on a car with a stock engine was a dual plate clutch and only if you were doing lots of drag strip launches. There was a shop in Torrance California selling clean used GTRs imported from Japan and Federalized, which surprisingly didn't ruin them at all. The steering wheel stayed on the right (where it belongs !) because the two turbos made it impossible to put the steering wheel on the left. Parts needed for routine maintenance were common to several Infinity models so there were no problems finding them.

Yeah, I hear you. We used to make those ball bearing twin turbos for Nissan.

Looks awesome! Car of my dreams. The GTR gets better and better each model. It would blow away any Porsche on a track. Love to see it on the Nurburgring where it would set the track record I am certain!

The car was specially set up for the Nurburgring attack. Nismo/Nissan were publicly burned at the stake for doing exactly the same thing with their 7:08 time. No one without bias accepts that Porsche (or Mercedes for that matter) ran a "street legal" car, or one which didn't utilise the same level weight reduction/modification that Nismo employed.

I can't even find a comparable time for the GT-R.

That's because they have given up competing with the Germans on their home turf. What's the point? The Germans get free reign to do whatever they want to their so-called "street legal" cars and get praised for it. If someone from Japan even comes close to dethroning them, then it's presented as a scandal in the media, and labelled as cheats.

One that the Nismo would win? I doubt it.

Your free to believe that. The only comparison you'll ever actually get to see first hand between the two cars will be at traffic light drag races, which the GT-R Nismo would spank the GT2 thoroughly.

IMO, someone's been watching too many "Fast and the Furious" movies.

I've never seen any of that trash franchise. Ad hominem fail.

Trying to have the last say, I assume?

Ha, ha, ha...

BTW, you might want to first have a talk with the Challenger Hellcat crowd before making any assumptions about traffic light drag races.

Better yet, go visit your local drag strip.

How much halo does your brand get from a twelve-year-old car?

My kids like McDs so I might go for one of them Happy Sets though.

Over the years, the Nissan GT-R has lost it's appeal and oh my, is it really ugly now.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but an untweaked GT-R could never "blow away", let's say... a Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

The Porsche is in a different league.

No thanks wouldn't drive a Nissan if you paid me
