Stop with the self regulation, it is NOT WORKING. The government needs to fine company's and put exec's in jail. Taking a pay cut (AKA buying your way out) is not effective and this latest "scandal" shows that.

Are there any Japanese corporations that are not full of poop? It's just sickening how many Japanese corporations in so many different industries are guilty of blatant fraud! There is not a single industry in Japan that has not been involved in fraud and misleading consumers. Cars, air bags, nuclear power, pharmaceuticals, the construction industry, steel manufacture, finance and more. If you were to pick any industry you will find cases of fraud.

It's working perfectly - for Japan Inc. All this fraud is kept in Japan and is not international news. The only reason TAKATA air bags got done was because they killed a dozen people internationally. There are half a dozen deaths in Japan attributed to the airbags, but nothing was done about it until the US courts starting hunting them. It's quite clear that Nippon Kaigi is built on smoke and mirrors BS!

Also some months of jail can be only a facade for the powerful ones, around the world.

Justice isn't equal for everyone, this is the simple truth. If an ordinry citizen stole a candy, he would get real punishment.

Anyway, it's not how I'm waiting for some people in this site changing their attitude, despite my posts are about objective facts that everyone should know (and probably knows).

The emission cheating scandal is spreading around the world, I think it's difficult to find a carmaker that isn't involved in this stuff.

You would think that after GM was saved by the American government with taxpayers money, they would behave better than they did in the past. This company should be already bunkrupted in a clean world, but this doesn't happen for two reasons:

I think one of the main business in the US is exactly lawyers business. You would think that the fact that lawyers business is so developed in the US and lawsuits are so common, would prevent some major scandals in industries. But I don't see an improvement in transparency at all. So, it's not really easy to find a way to prevent business misconduct, since these same misconduct feed another huge business, and despite everything, big companies always find a way to be saved by someone, except for some rare cases.

Again, only the ordinary guy who steals a candy, can be seriously screw up, this is the kind of society where we live.

That’s one problem with hanko’s - they can be used by others, and often are.

I've often thought it strange that on the one hand we are told that car emissions have never been cleaner and on the other hand pollution levels in large cities are increasing. Traffic levels in western cities have not grown enormously in recent years so the only conclusion is that car emissions are not as clean as they say.

It appears that many car companies have been lying and cheating in emission tests. I would like to see diesel cars banned (although there are few in Japan) and other cars thoroughly tested by the government, not the manufacturers.
