"Nissan deserves to implode."

While I do somewhat carry this sentiment, I feel sorry for all those front line and mid-section employees and managers who have and are going to lose their jobs as this situation gets worse.

But don't worry, the upper crust people will have their golden parachutes packed and ready for deployment.

Uchida is the end of Nissan.” We will learn from our mistakes in the past “ and then continue to say they will concentrate their European efforts in the UK, oblivious for Brexit and it’s fallout. Madness. Counting on Renault to coordinate the UK-EU effort for Nissan , maybe ? A French company ?

Barcelona and Indonesia plants must close but more than any other the Sunderland plant is a hopeless case. A child can see that but not Uchida

Well well well, who would of thought , they thought by targeting Ghosn they would prevent the planned merger that was about to happen, now over a 6 billion dollar loss and into the red for the first time since 2009. "We will admit our errors of the past" was that an admission over the hounding of Ghosn, or Hiroto Saikawa's role in the fiasco, he resigned, seems he got lucky.  "The path ahead is not easy, but we have fantastic workers at Nissan." that seems a bit ironic seeing you are closing plants and putting over 20,000 workers out of a job and that is just in Spain , according to the article. How many jobs will be lost in Indonesia ? This is how capitalism works, fantastic workers one minute, disposable labour the next.

From Corona virus pandemic to joblessness.

Brace for the worst.

As robert maes says, interesting to see that they're closing a plant inside the EU. Nissan famously has a large plant in the UK, now outside the EU and seemingly bound for tariffs and paperwork for any trade or flow of parts with the EU.

Nissan closed factories with much higher labor forces in Spain and Indonesia in favor of UK. The company seems to be seriously in trouble, as Ghosn predicted. What even more dumb is that Nissan invests into China, while the American enterprises are pulling their assets away from China. Not to mention China will be in an economic depression worse than the global version of it, Nissan invests into China is a misguided move.

In the end, Renault will absorb both Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors. With or without Ghosn. I don't why you are so heavily downvoted.

Brace for the worst.

I'm suddenly concerned about whether I have the proper item to clean my rear end.

Finish business and close auto plants in China!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

It is reducing the number of its models and focusing on certain geographic areas, such as Japan, China and the U.S., to enhance its efficiency and profitability, rather than chasing sales size.

Um, reducing the number of models when they were not that many to begin with or are they

just trying to follow Ghosn manual when he took over and axed poor performing cars and streamlined

the over bloated supply network. Their cars can use some remodelling to keep up with Toyota and that is

what they should be doing. Serena and Note are about the only cars selling well. The Juke and Elgrand have

lost considerably to later deployed Toyota CHR and Alphard.

and why would Nissan do a stupid thing like that, The Chinese plants prior to the pandemic are some of Nissans most productive and profitable plants same goes for many other automakers in the world.

GM sells more cars in China than in the US. Private companies make decisions based on profitability not politics

Should've just handled any issues with Ghosn internally. All of Nissan's pain is self-inflicted.

Au Revoir, Renault. Sayonara, Nissan and Mitsubishi....and Good Riddance! This will be a three year long wreck and pileup with government bureaucrats (and clueless executives) making the wreck even worse.

Just see where Nissan's production is moving. England. A country on the European continent, which is outside the European Union. Where European environmental laws are no longer in force. Because of the departure of this one in January of this year.

But is production capacity of the respective plants in England and Spain not the main issue for Nissan? I can't find accurate data to compare year by year, but does the England plant not produce about three times more cars than the Spain plant?

To solve, take all the criminal (wanted by Interpol) Goshne assets and revive the company, without his blatant corruption. New model, no stealing, jobs for normal people.

@wtfjapan

and why would Nissan do a stupid thing like that

Because China is responsible for the Corona Virus Pandemic (and of course many other things that happened and still happens in the world) and China has to be taken in responsibility for all their bad behaviors.

But I agree with you, if I analyze your post correctly, Money is most important for Nissan and other Car Makers.

So the China business is a very good income for all the Car Makers.

But the concluson from this is, that China can do whatever they want and whenever they want, bullying, lying...and nobody cares as long the money is rolling.

Hey.. Uchida and Saikawa - there's a proverb that goes: "He who seeds evil - bears evil"

Because the plant in England is already sufficient to cover Nissan's sales needs throughout Europe.

European environmental policy is the direct cause of the drop in car sales. Which was already down since mid-2016. The coronavirus was the final blow of a decision made months ago.

England is no longer a member of the European Union. This means the automatic disappearance of environmental taxes imposed from Brussels. Which allows Nissan to become more competitive.

Nissan should shut down , period. With their bad japanese management, nissan destory the lives of good japanese & all foreigners and bring shame to japan. What is there to sell ???.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Under Ghosn ~ Would Nissan be successful or would it be in what you see as of today? I ponder.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

At least this article is a bit more nuanced than yesterday evening's 7:00 p.m.'s FOX ... uh 'NHK-G' ... news.

When the Japanese car manufacturers' projected losses were announced, Nissan's name came up first, and with the most drastic financial damage. So bad, Nissan announced the probable closure of manufacturing sites in Indonesia and Spain ... because of ... you guessed it ... the coronavirus.

Only briefly, Ghosn's name was mentioned as Nissan's savior the last time the company had such a poor performance, decades ago.

T.V. for sale. Cheap.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Nissan had the greatest era of prosperity since its inception under Ghosn's 20 year chairmanship. A year and a half after they ousted him in an underhanded corporate coup they are sunk. Reap what you sew Nissan! See ya!

This departure of Nissan from Spain has nothing to do with the Ghons case. Rather, it's for other reasons that I'll summarize now.

1) Laws against climate change in the European Union. European governments are punishing car companies heavily with heavy fines. For having excessive pollution rates according to their regulations. In addition, these governments are criminalizing combustion engine cars. By raising taxes on diesel and gasoline. And encouraging almost compulsory public transport. All this has been seen in a significant reduction in car sales at European level. Not just at Nissan, but at all car brands. It can be said that many European governments are deliberately destroying the car industry. In a sectarian way without thinking about the consequences.

2) The socialist and communist coalition government in Spain. By making policies to increase labour costs and requiring additional taxes for wealthy companies. An example: The minimum inter-professional wage. It was raised in 2019. From 750 to 950 Euros by a decree law imposed arbitrarily without any negotiation.

3) The Catalan problem. Many radical organizations cut the main roads without warning. Making the factories run out of supplies. Or that many new cars can't make it to the dealerships because of these roadblocks.

4) Legal insecurity. For the above and other related reasons. Especially in the case of Spain.

Just see where Nissan's production is moving. England. A country on the European continent, which is outside the European Union. Where European environmental laws are no longer in force. Because of the departure of this one in January of this year.

This from a Spaniard living in Spain.

without a world view they'll contract more and more from a world company. Talent is already leaving. Management doesn't understand other cultures. Without Ghosn they'll continue to be rudderless. Ironically they'll be bought up, the exact result they were fighting

Who didn't see this coming from a mile away?

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

I bet it wasn't an admission about ghosn. They're far too arrogant to do so. They've also repeatedly blamed HIM for their current self-inflicted situation.

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

I think Ghosen is doing a great job! Nissan on the other hand is not.

-6 ( +8 / -14 )

They could use a talented foreign CEO right about now and its the last thing they are going to get. That "get the gaijin" card paying the bills? Seems not. Nissan deserves to implode.
