As long as he bowed in apology that's all right then.

I don't understand Japan, how does a deep bow and saying the words "I'm deeply sorry" and even squeezing a few tears out resolve you of all guilt?
I think this needs to be on the top 47 things foreigners find strange in Japan!

as the Japanese love to say, "shou ga nai" and then keep putting up with incompetence.

Ah, Japan. A deep bow and all the trouble caused is forgotten. Meanwhile a whole lot of people get screwed and swept under the carpet.
Disillusioned
Of course he was re-elected. Insider trading is considered creative business tactics in Japanese business ethics.

The show must go on

gogogo: "I think this needs to be on the top 47 things foreigners find strange in Japan!"
I think there needs to be a separate list not of what foreigners find strange, but what is just simply insane.

Isn't it weird that "there is no one any better" so we'll get this corrupt guy to keep going, does Japan have a talented HR problem?

Internal investigation... Hahahaha!
Re-elected? When, when, when is this country going to learn?
Bowed and apologized... ah Japan Inc. As pathetic as ever.

wowzers. All I can think of is one of the those leave it to beaver moms scolding him while waving her finger. "don't you do that again (......and get caught)"

This is a white collar crime. No criminal investigation for this matter is beyond me. These Japanese shareholders are sending a wrong message to global investors. We will stay away from Japan's future. Good luck.

@globalwatcher, i think there is investigation into this, and supposedly the authorities will crack down more heavily. But of course, we have seen stuff like this before and somehow big money is able to get away without serving time or paying big fines.
Nomura should disband its entire board, senior management, and start anew.

@icreturns, great! That's how this matter should be handled.
