A retailer of nuclear fallout shelters in Japan said Monday that sales soared in the lead-up to North Korea's rocket launch as jittery residents took their safety into their own hands. Osaka-based Shelter Co said it received 12 orders in just two months ahead of Sunday's launch -- more than double the number it usually sells in an entire year.
Most orders for the Swiss-made 2.8 million yen "household nuclear shelters" came from northwestern Akita and Iwate prefectures, located under the rocket's path, said company president Seiichiro Nishimoto. "This is a record in the 30 years I've been in this business," he said. "Japanese want to be prepared. I expect the number of orders to increase."

12 orders! Out of a population of how many? But really, unless they are made out of the same reinforced concrete that Japan Inc. lines its coast and rivers with, contain months of food and water, and have positive pressure air filtration systems, it's probably a waste of money.
Good stimulus for Swiss economy though!

Even with the shelters, humanity is not likely to survive an all out nuclear war. Don't waste your money.

If the walls are as thin as in the japanese houses i rather make it myself.

Awsome I just found a new business scam. When I was a kid during the cold war we had those "duck and cover" movies in school that told you how to take cover in the event of a nuke attack. Funny as hell, if you do get nuked this household shelter isn't going to help you. Let's change that old song to duck and kiss your a** goodbye.

While a shelter is not that useful against full-scale nuclear holocaust, if one is well off, it is a good idea to have underground fortification when the crap hits the fan. A nice thing to have JIC a few mundane missiles get launched after a ‘misunderstanding’.
Also if whatever causes societal collapse does not completely ash the big cities, there could be a lot of city dwellers raiding the countryside. A bunker can be quite useful to hold out in until the raiders move on or starve.

How do you put it in your house? Is it screwed down to the foundation, or will it blow away like a tumble weed. Better off standing outside and get killed off fast.
