The industry knew around 2007 that plasma was a failed technology - power hungry, and best viewed in dark rooms.

Yet Panasonic pursued an analogue era, scale production strategy in the digital age, opening more plasma capacity as late as November 2009.

Did plasma as a technology, an analogue mindset, or woefully ignoring the market, nearly kill Panasonic?

I still way prefer my plasma TV over LCD or EDT screens, the picture is just clearer and especially watching fast moving objects on screen like sport programs, etc. Although Panasonic plasma screens are good, the internal speakers are just horrendous as they vibrate like crazy.

Plasma is not a failed technology - it's just not a cost effective one.

so literally it's failed technology.

No, it's a failed business venture. As technology for technology's sake, there is nothing wrong with it at all. Panasonic Plasma TVs are still ranked at or near the top of image quality among consumer TVs.

Discontinuing plasma production - now that's an Eco Idea.

Love my plasma tv. Smoothest image, no pixellation whatsoever.

Too bad. I have a plasma and I want to hold on to the technology as long as I can. I really don't like LCD because of the "soap opera effect."
