I expect no top executive from abroad dares take the opportunity offered by Nissan and fall into their mouse trap once again. " Once - shame on you...but twice - shame on me..." as the old saying goes.

Perfectly correct , no board members from inside Nissan considering the disaster caused by saikawa. I am sure the world will agree with me.

But the panel, which will draw up a report in late March, is not expected to delve into the responsibility of current Nissan executives, including President Hiroto Saikawa

Why don't they kick out Saikawa?? He made this mess

If outside directors bring so much clarity, why not apply that to countries as well? Imagine if you want to be a member of the US Congress (board of directors). First, you have to get on good graces with the nominating committee (sounds commie...) because you can't just be a write-in. Then, you must affirm that you are not a US citizen and have never worked in the US to be considered for outside director of congress. Nevermind also that people still say that a 15-member board is too big, let alone a more representative one at 435. Sounds silly, doesn't it? Then why do companies not want company citizens elected by and for their people?

Outside actually means from Mitsubishi Zaibatsu (conglomerate).

The wider Mitsubishi group pretty much washed their hands of Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) after the latest scandal. That's why they joined the Renault/Nissan group. If any Mitsubishi ppl join the board they will likely be from MMC (except for any designated "outside directors" of course.

So about as much use as a chocolate tea pot then.

The thing I'm most impressed with about this committee is they are continuing the kabuki theater that the Ghosn case is all about compensation, when in fact it's a proxy war for the future of the Renault-Nissan alliance [including the issue of French governmental involvement]. Notably they're not even trying to address this main issue in their recommendations, due to "differing views".

By increasing the ratio of outside members, the panel is aiming to have them play a leading role in nominating executives and determining their remuneration, the sources said.

Why do I have the feeling that these "outside" directors will be of the "friends & family" type.

You know, like....

A race car driver.

An executive from Dentsu.

Someone from a Japanese bank.

Someone from Calsonic.

And so on.

But the panel, which will draw up a report in late March, is not expected to delve into the responsibility of current Nissan executives, including President Hiroto Saikawa, for the governance problems

Yeah, they want to put the responsibility on the "outsiders" so they can get rid of them somewhere down the line!

May I guess that those outsiders are actually insiders of Japanese nationality ?
