The Japanese govt. is up to its neck in this charade, using taxpayer money to finance multi-billion dollar fossil fuel projects around the world. It's another classic example of privatized profits and socialized losses.

As of 2018, Japan relied on coal for 32 percent of its power generation. Natural gas generating the same amount of energy makes only half as much CO2, so converting to natural gas, on the way to a carbon neutral future, makes sense.

As the saying goes, the good and the perfect should not be enemies.
