This photo is deliberately created to make Saikawa appear to be the "Judge" in this case. He will certainly live to regret this sneak attack...remember 7 December, 1941?

Ghosn's resignation from Renault is just the end of the beginning.

He is no longer a hostage in the underlying battle between Saikawa/Nissan and Ranault/French Government.

This move may provide the prosecutor a "face-saving" from this mess. If Ghosn signs some generic apology for being a successful foreign CEO in Japan and for earning more than other Japanese CEO's, he will be more likely get bail.

Ghosn will not go quietly into the night and this is the nub of the problem for Japan Inc.

He certainly could have not done all he is accused of without the knowledge and compliance of senior execs and the board of Nissan. For that reason he is being denied the ability to defend himself.

If you look at other serious malfeasance and incompetence cases in Japan (and there are many), the common thread is that the accused apologise and disappear forever. This protects the company from complete transparency and accountability.

To expect this case to go the same way is pure folly.

The longer term effects on Japan are profound.

Was Ghosn forced to resign or what? How is it possible for someone to make a logical decision when he is under duress?

The CEO and chair can now threaten to sell all nissan shares they hold, lowering its value, unless Nissan (whom likely have govt influence) convinces prosecutor to drop all charges and release Ghosn.

@Brian, Ghosn himself resolved to resign. No one can resist Japan Inc.arcerated.

Brian, sadly the reality of heartless people are in all sides of the globe. They care not of a man who created their immense wealth and success to begin with.. Only with their fake pride.

What I find disturbing is the Renault have dropped Ghosn ( or let him resign) like a stone, since he's "so" innocent, why have they not backed him 100%? why have they not sent legal representation on Renaults behalf? it seems like Renault have washed their hands of the whole affair already.

Fake smiles and handshakes for the new candidate AND the French just forgot to help bring an innocent man out of detention, his whole life is destroyed due to our corrupt judicial system and Saikawas vision is still being implemented to break your alliance in case you didnt know..

But carry on with fake smiles and handshakes, oui oui..

A one man show. Playing the good guy , this is a Japanese with no shame , no remorse , no heart , no human feelings. Just look at the face of a common back-stabber. I cannot say congratulation to the new chairman because his job will be a very difficult one. He will be surrounded by unworthy and poor-minded Japanese. For Carlos, this is not the end. This is the beginning to sue Nissan, saikawa to the ground.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

it was bound to happen eventually given the permanent detention. Ghosn will sue Nissan into the ground

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Now it is probably safe to let him out on bail

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

but they may come to regret the day they ever went down this path!!

yep the new CEO has a clean slate, so Nissans snakes have nothing on him, but the new CEO know how Nissan operates now and will probably run Nissan to keep these snakes in check. The only way Nissan could have gained an advantage was by having a puppet Japanese CEO in place to toe the line, they failed now they'll have to suffer the repercussions.

It makes total sense. You can't run a company or companies from inside a jail cell with no visitation rights. Whilst Renault may have wished to kept faith with Ghosn and still employ him; they have to consider the immediate needs of the rest of the company, the alliance, and its future.

Looks a bit lonely, no one wants to be seen with him obviously. Is that a camera on the wall watching his back? New governance had kicked in he has the personal use of two desks when fronting the media....all alone.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

@Will Goode.....thank you, in the initial article that sentence was not included. Hence my question.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Nissan is about to leave the alliance

actually No, not without Renault say so, or if Nissan can offer a huge premium on top of the 43% shares Renault owns. and Saikawa thought a Japanese was going to take over from Ghosn. lol.

If Japan Inc. thinks the French government and Renault will roll over, they don't know how the French operate.

yep Saikawa thought a Japanese would take over from Ghosn someone who would toe the line and Japan would finally be back in control of Nissan , lol. Saikawa better watch his back, he may be demoted to a windowless room stamping papers very soon. lol

"Our goal from the beginning of this case has always been to preserve Renault's interests and consolidate the alliance between Renault and Nissan," Le Maire said. "The necessary decisions have been made."

All of the Nissan supporters / Ghosn haters think that this is because the French government and Renault believe Ghosn is guilty.

Au contraire!

This is about ensuring Renault can be managed properly and its interests represented fully. Which is impossible for Ghosn to do since clearly Japan Inc has locked him up and has thrown away the key.

If Japan Inc. thinks the French government and Renault will roll over, they don't know how the French operate.

This is a multi-act drama. Japan Inc. thinks they have won, but they may come to regret the day they ever went down this path!!

Stay tuned!

Looks like Renault finally looked at the evidence and the French government has finally come to its senses! Bye bye Carlos!

Looks to me like both he and Renault know that he will be out of commission for quite a while and his focus will and should be directed to his legal challenges.

But what something looks like and what something actually is are often different things.

good luck to the new ceo and chairman.

watch your back not to fall in the deep hole like ghosn.

@yubaru

Ghosn formally handed in his resignation from his roles at Renault on Wednesday evening.

23/1/2019

So if Carlos Ghosn, saved Nissan, as Chairman & CEO for twenty years, AND led Renault as Chairman & CEO for ten days years, AND boss of Mitsubishi for two years, you probably actually owe him more money than he claimed.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

Alliance? With allies like this ay, who needs enemies?

3 ( +9 / -6 )

"propose new governance for the group" in the coming weeks and to ensure that the link between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi "remains strong."

They will have an enormous task.

Nissan is making all them money now - and so it WILL demand some changes in share structure.

It will be interesting to see how these former michelin guys can work it out.

Nissan is about to leave the alliance

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

A positive move, but unfortunate one for Ghosn.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Senard said he had two major priorities: to "propose new governance for the group" in the coming weeks and to ensure that the link between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi "remains strong.

Do you hear that Saikawa?

14 ( +22 / -8 )

Yeah, remove the snakes at Nissan next...

10 ( +19 / -9 )

Bye bye Saikawa!

7 ( +20 / -13 )

When did Ghosn resign?
