My buddy in Korea said Asahi is a lot more popular than Korean brands like Hite. Stores claim they aren't selling it but if you ask, they have it in stock in the back. Acting like you are a part of the boycott is the in thing.

No problem. Just re-direct the shipments of mouth-watering Asashi, Kirin, Sapporo etc to nations thirsty for more. SE Asia, EU, USA, for example. This will only hurt the Korean consumers who have imposed this "ban".

To Asahi and Sapporo: doing my best to make up for the sales shortfall!

Can't find any Korean goods around we can boycott. Too bad.

While I was looking for the answer I found this -

Granted that's only the front logo.

I can only imagine the ditch water used to make Korean beer. It is pretty amazing that the second highest IQ people in the world tied with Japan, is duped so easily by government propaganda. I guess 105 is not so impressive after all.

@DaDude

Not at all.

1) Japanese beer is openly sold at convenience stores.

2) It is just that the convenience chain removed "4 cans of beer for $9" promotions normally applied on Korean and European beer. You can still buy Japanese beer, you just have to pay full price for it.

3) Supermarket is a bit different, a lot of them have indeed removed Japanese beer completely off the shelf.

ALL smartphones are branded this way "Aquos", "iPhone", "Xperia", "Pixel".

Samsung removed it logo from phones for the Japanese market due to reluctance of the Japanese to purchase Korean brand goods. ONLY market in the world to do this.

Isn't it Samsung thought better and decided to do or what? Who cares. Idiot. Maybe some Japanese who

know Samsung head hunted so many Japanese engineers from Japanese rivals and dumped most of them once it took over all the now-hows might have been hating such logo.

Besides, nobody calls "Apple iphone" "Sony Xperia" "Sharp Aquos" " Google Pixel"

Gambare fly down,I know that for you everything that comes with the word Japan is the best top in the world.

But beer?

Is European field,just in Germany there are over thousands of craftbeers or even national beers that will put down Asashi,to don't mention the exellent Czech or the rich tasted Belgians.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

They are wise to boycott Asahi piss poor beer. I avoid it because I want good quality beer. Those koreans need to be introduced to real beer, by that I mean English beer

@wipeout

Is that Stella? I thought it was cough syrup, sugar, gas and p##s in a glass.

Give me an Asahi over that.

This is true. Do you know if they did it independently or was it something they were requested to do by Japanese networks?

What Japan needs to seriously consider boycotting is Korean influence spread out in Judiciary and media

That's for sure.

$4.3 million worth of beer to South Korea in July - so much for the boycott. Drink up, Lads.

Wallace:

Would make sense to use kanji/hanja/hanzi for samsung. Could pronounce Tri-Star however, then. 三星 = 삼성, さんしょう、sānxīng, Tres Estrellas (picture the dos equis guy in commercial), Trí Réalta, and

तीन तारे. Fun

@mrbaberunee

Fyi: being a Belgian I should advice you never to refer to that English dark water as 'beer' if you ever visit the real beer country.

We have some laws that do not allow you to sell something for what it is not...

@Brussel

Both countries produce some good and bad beers.

I tasted some real crap in Belgium along with some good ones. Same for the UK.

If it ever gets to the point where the people of the world cannot unite over beer (or any other adult beverage) I fear for the future.

Its ok to dream. Keep spinnin.

Japanese beers always have a fresh, clean taste . . . while other beers I have tried are sometimes bitter, giving headache . . . another good Japanese beer is Sapporo beer.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

compare to Korean Beer Japanese beer is far superior

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

 Samsung had to cover up their logo and call it the 'Galaxy' not 'Samsung Galaxy' in the Japanese market.

This is nothing short of disgusting. The fact that Samsung had to do that in this day and age is mind boggling to say the least. Shame.

You're going to have to cite actual components or features which surpass the Japanese equivalents when making such a claim.

Okay.. how about Sony TVs using LG's display panel? As in the display itself is Korean, the casing is made by Sony.

And yet the denialists will continue spinning tales to justify their dissonance.

I was a econ major in college and I don't think supply and demand works that way. Beer lovers in SE Asia, EU, USA aren't going to start drinking more b/c Korean doesn't want Japanese beer anymore. It just means less sales for Asahi. According to Reuters, "South Korea buys 61% of Japan’s beer exports, spending 7.9 billion yen ($73 million) in 2018 for the shipments."

, is duped so easily by government propaganda.

Oh? Ok. If you actually took the time to step out of your denialism bubble, you'd realize that the individuals steeped in propaganda and historical denialism are actually the japanese. Shocked? Take a look at this and learn something.

Brilliantly argued, I agree too! Japanese beer, especially Asahi "Super Dry", is probably the best beer in the world.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Don't worry folks! $73M in beer sales is nothing! South Korea buys about $8B worth of industrial photoresist and various machineries, most of which would now be either made domestically in South Korea or imported from elsewhere.

@umbrella - SK citizens duped by government propaganda? You are aware they deposed a sitting president with democratic protests a few years ago?

Japanese goods are hugely popular in SK, I mean 'were'.

Korean tourists to Japan will dwindle, especially rural onsen areas that relied heavily on tourist dollars to survive.

You ain't seen nothing yet.

SK is Uniqlo's Japan's 2nd largest overseas market with 186 stores. Don't be surprised if they close a majority of stores in SK, even pull out of SK altogether in less than a year

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

What I can see from above comments by some ppl is that their views are narrow and outdated on Korea and Japan. If you don't see clearly, you can't solve problems between two countries.

Japan is not as great country as in 1980s when Sony, Sharp, Toshiba etc. electronic gadgets swept all around the world. Those days are gone long time ago.

Japan government debt is soaring like a sky rocket. Your soil is contaminated by fatal radioactive materials and your government try to hide scientific and medical facts from their own ppl.

Your rightist (almost fascistic) government wants to go back to pre-WWII status which is ridiculous and anachronistic.

Japanese, wake up ! Beer is a tiny part of big world.

Oh boy, you Japanese are very optimistic folks, or perhaps really clueless. Sure, they all have them stocked in the back to be returned or thrown away. The key thing here is that even if those who love all things Japan, in spite of their 12 year old girlish petulance behavior, can't buy them if stores aren't selling them.
