Don't use MS-Windows for your critical infrastructure folks. There are alternatives.
For over 20 yrs, businesses have been prying MSFT from their businesses. It isn't always easy, but it isn't impossible either.
Brazil and Germany have been removing MSFT from their govts for decades now.
These small businesses aren't impacted on their systems. It is the upstream paid services like payroll and banking that were directly impacted, taking away the services the small businesses need to .. er ... do business.
If you are a small business owner, you should ask, from every vendor your business is tied to, how they will keep working if the computer systems you interface through are not available for any reason. Can they drop back to paper and phone calls? If they won't answer AND put the answers as an addendum to the contract, move on. If there's no networking, can you snailmail papers to keep your business running?
