Sony reduces loss on sales recovery, restructuring

In a nutshell:

-Samsung and other companies are crushing Sony in the mobile and TV market.

-Nintendo's 3DS lower price has eliminated almost any chance of the PSVita (which committed of not preparing enough 3rd party releases) to succeed in the portable console market.

-The yen is hitting hard.

-People don't have enough confidence on the economic recovery to buy Sony's quality products and prefer to spend less for a lesser product.

Add that to the forecast of Sony thinking about leaving the console market and them doing business for Olympus and you have the perfect recipe for disaster after so many years of success. I hope Sony gets back on track.

So do I, but they lost the only person in the company with any ideas, Akio Morita.

Unless they can get someone who can think outside the box, I'm afraid they don't stand a chance.

FYI, just one fact, most of image CMOS chips in smartphones are made by Sony. Don't write them off yet.

I wonder what proportion of the red ink / profits are from services such as Sony Insurance and Sony Pictures.

What happened to the idea of a TV/Computer? I want Hulu/YouTube on Ubuntu inside a Sony OLED TV. Please do it now before Samsung does. Get gaijin to do the software, as they do with Vegas (Sony's brilliant video editing software).
