Very positive news for one of the world's most premier tech brands. If only they can get their smartphones to bring in some steady, decent, profit, then Sony is essentially back in its forner glory.
From the Alpha cameras, to the Bravia TVs, to the PlayStation, to all the audiovisual products they make, from headphones to turntables and everything in between, to the Sony ES series and Signature Series, there's not a tech brand out there that has this much diverse tech expertise. From pioneers in audio, to pioneers in interactive entertainment, to pioneers in imaging.
I'm hoping similarly positive results for the other Japanese tech titan, Panasonic. From what I hear in Europe, realistically the only region that gets Panny TVs other than Japan, Panasonic has all but given up on marketing, and they also need to wake up. Their TVs are incredible, but pretty much no one except videophiles know about them.

Did you read the article? Their net profit dropped 15%, even after Sony has in previous years terminated thousands of jobs and sold many of its business units, and you call that positive news?
Sony's smartphones are not competitive, technologically behind and pretty much unattractive products. Their mobile division is essentially dead.
Sony was not a pioneer whatsoever on any of these.

I still buy Sony TV and home theater. Sony is synonymous with quality IMO.
