Over 10 and a half million bucks for running a coffee shop. That's a lotta dough for the joe - and makes me glad I never patronize the place.

A long time ago I went in to get an iced caramel drink or whatever they call them without looking at the price and when the young lady said it was going to be about $6 I almost walked out, but alas I paid and have never been back since.

He also gets 12 baristas all with masters' degrees to carry him around in a gold plated litter with emerald green tassels

Actually, compared to Coke's and GE's CEOs, this isn't exuberant. Schultz turned around SBUX when it was doing poorly in 08-09. So, though high, he is earning his money. To be fair SBUX does pay their employees OKish.

Also, the raise is based upon the stock's valuation increasing. Not as straight forward as you think.

Anyhow, Costco's CEo is awesome. Guy only makes $500k, and keeps his worker's wages high.

elkario,

Thanks. I didn't know that about the Costco CEO. I admire him for paying living wages.

Maybe he should move over to McDonald's Japan and fix it.

They'll offset this but jacking up their prices yet again. Coffees went up ¥20 last year and are about to go up another ¥10. If it were a quality product, then sure...

It's funny how in the UK Starbucks never seem to make any profit. I wonder why they keep opening stores when they are not making money.

Why do we all get so bent out of shape when a CEO, who is running a company, and hopefully doing it well to get a pay raise, but we do nothing but cheer when a person like Max Scherzer signs a 210 million dollar contract to throw a ball? Both are out of whack, but come one, 30 million a year to play a kids game,?

What a company decides to pay it's employees is a matter for the company's shareholders.

Starbucks’ total revenue increased 11% to $16.45 billion in its fiscal year 2014 and its adjusted net income per share rose 21% to $2.66.

I would imagine the shareholders aren't too unhappy.

sighclops, arabica coffee bean prices skyrocketed last year due to drought in main producer Brazil. That might have more to do with price increases than the CEO's pay packet.

"a cash payment based on performance increased 30% to $2.9 million"

Gosh, my work performance has been pretty darn stellar this past year, yet my salary has stayed the same.

I think I'll apply for the Starbucks CEO position.

Good for him. As a Capitalist he should rake in the money and get as much as he can. I'm not a big Starbucks fan, but I do like the atmosphere. They do a great job advertising something that is so simple to make.

Another reason I DON'T visit except to use a toilet. I visit owner operator family ests.
