From the little I've read about this, it seems that employees aren't happy with rosters, pay rates for longer employed folk and security in relation to increasing customer harrassment.

Not everything workers wish for is to do with pay rises. Just some respect for fair hours and safety at work can go a long way.

Companies always have good reasons for opposing unions. Most are related to retaining low paid staff who will not collectively question their employer.

Outwardly, Starbucks exudes all the latest liberal values, when it comes to the P&L, not so much.

Starbucks in the US is dreadful. Dirty areas for cream, lids, etc., loud, with ridiculously uncomfortable chairs, disgusting bathrooms, employees trying to shame customers into tip them for pouring them a cup of coffee. Japan is way better. Even Starbucks in China is better and cleaner than in the US.

Yeah, can't argue that even Japan wins when it comes to designing the interior and exterior, they win hands down.

Not entirely true, but at the same time, all corporations are beholden to their shareholders. Personally, I love Starbucks for their wifi and they do make a pretty tasty espresso.
