Suntory Holdings announced it will put 150 bottles of premium 50-year single malt whiskey on sale on Dec 13. The Yamazaki 50 Year brand will sell for 1 million yen per bottle.
The special whiskey was aged for 50 years in Mongolian Oak barrels, imparting a strong amber red color and fragrant aroma to the aged drink. Yamazaki 50 Year contains 57% alcohol by volume.

It would be nice if they DONATED some of the $$ to the victims up in Tohoku and while they are at, donate some booze too.

That means it was kegged around 1961. I wonder if Suntory thought about keeping it in the barrel that long and selling it for that price. Also, who can verify that it's really 50 years old here, Oympus?

At that price, it better be smooooooooth. I've never heard of a 50 year old whiskey before this article.

1 million yen for a Suntory whiskey? I don't know, Suntory has never been my favorite whatever old it is.
Well, we well see, they can send me a sample bottle, if I invest 1 million I need some sample to taste. First I need to drink it all (not straight the whole bottle at once, of course) and then I might buy one. Supposing I can sell it for 2 million.

Nice positioning, I'd love to know the mark-up on this. Consumers will believe that it has to be that much better if it cost one million yen. It could be interesting to have if your business requires you to entertain at home or you have a bar in the office. Otherwise, get a bottle of Chivas Regal or for the matter Nikka and give the change to the victims of the tsunami or orphans, etc...

I'll have 2!

Judging by their Pepsi Pink, I'd keep away. :p

A lot of sour grapes around here, isn't it... I never liked whiskey, but drinkers say Suntori's stuff is among the best they'd had. I Believe a good dink should cost around 5000 yen or more for a 750 ml bottle.
