It's great to have JASM (not called TSMC) here in Kumamoto, but boy oh boy, they really need to build some new roads to handle all the traffic. JASM are going to be building a second fab close by soon, and SONY is also breaking ground on a new fab just around the corner. One good thing about JASM is that their starting salary for new engineers is 280,000 yen per month, compared to SONY's paltry 240,000 yen. It is hoped that Japanese companies in the area will face pressure to raise salaries to keep pace (probably won't though).

Quote: TSMC had sought to quell investor fears in the past.
They don't need to worry about investors if they are being bankrolled by government money, Chinese-style.

Labor has complained of TSMCs mismanagement and lack of knowledge of safety standards and TSMCs desire to bring in over 500 Taiwanese workers as a means to bring in cheaper labor and the claims of a skilled labor shortage are bogus. Regardless of who’s in the wrong - US taxpayers are the ones getting the raw deal out of this $53 billion USD boondoggle with only a gigantic unusable factory in the middle of the Arizona desert.

TSMC screwed up royally by thinking they could expect American workers to magically accept awful Asian work practices without complaining about it. I have very little sympathy.

I've read TMMC US plant's targeting state of the art cutting edge chips, whereas their Japan plant's focus is legacy chips. Likely explain a lot regarding delays.
