This survey is about as useless as the government's sub-5% unemployment rate. There is no economic growth in Japan so the results of the survey should not surprise anyone. Without the government's massive deficit spending, the GDP would properly show recessionary data. This spending cannot continue forever and the debt must be addressed. Meanwhile, the dependence on it only serves to weaken what is left of the real economy.

The Japanese economy. Hopeless and getting worse all the time. There is nothing to look forward to and pessimism is the norm.

They are not the only ones with a lack of confidence in the Japanese economy. Just about everything had turned to poop in the last ten years. You have the revolving door for prime ministers (soon to revolve again), the GDP dropping like flies in a fish and chip shop and Saturday's news of the pension system being abolished. The only way Japan can recover is through major globalization, but the right-wing twits like that moron Osaka governor can't see past their imperialistic BS. The only good news is for foreign English teachers. Japan will have to move most of its business offshore if it wants to rebuild the economy, thus creating a huge demand for more English speakers. All the eikaiwas should put their prices up and stop being patronized by Japan's apathy pleas. Whether they like it or not, the Japanese need to learn English and we have a responsibilty to make them pay for it.

Japan's share of export within its overall economic base remains small ( example vs that of Germany ), hence, softened demand from overseas cannot be exaggerated, the key lies in Japan domestic demand. Agreed with Saidani on the restricted sustainability of deficit spending but it seems that choices are limited -- in the short run, think this is the only magic to support J economy given the fact that J- debts are mainly backed by J-public & institutional investors within Japan instead of foreign investors -- this turns out to under control even with slight 'abuses'. Another idea is to launch 'new deal' type of mega projects to strengthen Japan's resistance against tsunamis.
