Let's take care of the disaster here and not ruin other countries with slipshod maintenance.

Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) will set up a joint venture in Britain by March 2016 with another Japanese company to make large-scale power storage facilities, the Nikkei said, as part of its entry into the wholesale electricity market.

Amazing how Japanese energy companies -- one of which has a rather spotty reputation -- can so easily set up foreign ventures, but the reverse is not true. "Free trade" by the Japanese definition is strictly one way.

This news must be wrong. The Japanese are the ones who need European energy technology...not the other way around!

@Jeff Lee

I agree with you. It seems like TEPCO will use this joint venture as way to reach out for help without actually asking for help. They don't want to lose face and admit wrongdoing, so they will learn as much as they can and take it back to Japan.

@JeffLee

I couldn't agree more ! The mere audacity of TEPCO is unbelievable !

They can't even get their act together on home turf!

That is what every Japanese company have done for the past 50 years and then Client the technology they own, and that is Japanese technology.

"There is currently no suggestion the embattled company intends to operate power plants in Britain."

That's because no nation in their right mind would allow TEPCO to operate a plant given their reputation.

And yet, in Japan...

This Country is so dilusiional,it is laughable!

Does TEPCO know that most of Europe is going renewable energy?

And not Nuclear energy?

TEPCO you better clean up all your dirt in Japan and even don't consider to put one foot to Europe.

The deals not done yet. A desire is the same as a signed contract. There are plenty of hurdles to jump, not least of which is that TEPCO's name is toxic. It will be tough to get past the regulators.

A desire is NOT the same as a contract. Soz, I'll try to get it right in future.

Distraction tactics: why not use this technology to address one of the main arguments against the wholesale use of solar energy, namely storage restraints?

TEPCO said Thursday that it and NGK had jointly applied for a government project to support feasibility studies on exporting infrastructure systems.

Government project? I smell a euphemism for more subsidies.

Finally, while this may sound like a wizard idea to the old boy network, Europe's utilities will drop them as soon as a more cost effective alternative emerges, with Team Japan once more victim of disruptive innovation.
