This is what happens when you transfer all your vehicle's critical functions to a touchscreen.

Your eyes should be on the road, not on an iPad.

What creeps me out is that Tesla can push software uploads remotely without owner control. Not no but heck no!

Perhaps a batch of parts was shipped with a lower spec temp. threshold. This may happen for many manufacturers with the squeeze on chip supplies.

I'm not sure we are in a position to allow software to do stuff that will lead to people dying when it crashes. The code is not reliable enough. Losing half a page of unsaved data is one thing. Computer controlled cars blue-screening is quite another.

Desert Tortoise - half the software on your PC does that, silently updating with goodness-knows-what in the background. Chrome and Windows update like that regularly. If your government wanted to spy on you, it would just demand access through one of the many update procedures.
