Tiffany opens new store in Tokyo's Shinjuku

Jeweler Tiffany & Co Japan on Monday opened a new store in Japan for the first time in five years.

The new store is located in Tokyo's Shinjuku shopping district at Shinjuku 3-3-11. It has three floors.

The 1st floor is a "fashion salon" for fashion jewelry; the 2nd floor is a “fine salon,” which is for diamonds; and the 3rd floor is a “bridal salon.”

Yes, I live in Shinjuku. Recently, not only Tifanny, but Gucci, Coach, and Louis Vitton have opened up. And Barneys has been there for ages. Is Shinjuku going upscale? I don't like it! Isetan is sufficient. I want my old down to earth Shinjuku back!! They should stay at Ginza. If Japan is in decline, why are they coming here?

Because Chinese tourists can't get enough of Shinjuku?

I'd take a stab in the dark and say that it may, and must may mind you, have something to do with Japan being the 3rd largest economy in the world. Pure speculation mind you.

Tiffanny, Gucci, Coach and LV were all in Shinjuku at one time or another, then closed and now are reappearing, probably due to the stronger yen, new demand from inbound travelers, etc. For Chinese, they want the real thing, not the knock offs sold in China.

kokohe is right, and I've heard this from Chinese. Even at a "flagship store" in Shanghai or Beijing, they are not 100% sure it is "genuine". But yes, you all are right, tourism in Shinjuku has been vastly increasing on the back of the general increase of tourism, hitting 10 million for the first time. I don't mind the tourists (and even help them when they are lost), but the atmosphere of Shinjuku is changing. When I was a little kid in the 80s, there were still two floor business on the first floor residence on the second floor buildings lining the main drag. They are all gone now.
